Locum NP (Nurse Practitioner), PA (Physician's Assistant) Cardiothoracic Surgery

. This opportunity is ideal for an associate-level clinician looking to deliver high-quality perioperative and postoperative care within a respected medical practice.

In this role, you will work alongside cardiothoracic surgeons and multidisciplinary care teams to support patients throughout their surgical journey, from pre-operative evaluation through recovery and follow-up. You will contribute to patient assessment, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making while ensuring continuity and quality of care within the Medical Practice industry.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-operative assessments and evaluate patient readiness for cardiothoracic procedures
• Assist surgeons in the operating room and during complex procedures as required
• Perform post-operative rounds and monitor patient recovery and progress
• Manage acute and chronic conditions in cardiothoracic surgical patients
• Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests and imaging studies
• Prescribe medications and adjust treatment plans based on patient response
• Provide patient and family education on surgical procedures, recovery, and self-care
• Coordinate care with nursing staff, physicians, therapists, and other providers
• Document clinical encounters accurately in electronic health records
• Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements

Requirements

• Current, valid license as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the applicable state
• Board certification as an NP or PA (NCCPA or AANP as applicable)
• Prior experience in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, or a related surgical specialty
• Strong knowledge of perioperative care, post-operative management, and cardiac physiology
• Proficiency in electronic health record systems and clinical documentation
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, team-based surgical environment
• Strong commitment to patient safety, quality of care, and professional ethics
• Flexibility and reliability to meet on-site contract schedule requirements

Schedule: 8-hour day shifts, 7 on/7 off

No call requirement

Setting: Inpatient and outpatient

Patient Census: Up to 10-15 per day

Will serve as first assist for CABG, ECMO, and EVH procedures

EMR: Epic

Must be board-certified
