Role Overview

We are seeking a contingent physician to provide overnight, non-operative coverage for the General Surgery service, supporting general, HPB, colorectal, thoracic, plastic, and vascular surgery patients.

The role includes evaluating new routine and emergent consults, responding to acute changes in patient status, addressing nursing calls, entering orders, and performing select bedside procedures. Shifts are 12-hour overnight shifts (6:00 p. m.–6:30 a. m.)

Monday through Friday, both day and night shifts on weekends/holidays, and an option for 24-hour coverage Saturday, Sunday, and holidays; ideally, the physician will be available for at least four shifts per month, with additional shifts available.

What You Will Do

• Evaluate and treat patients using appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
• Coordinate discharge planning with case management to ensure seamless patient transitions.
• Recommend and participate in initiatives to improve cost-effectiveness and quality of care.
• Accept patient referrals and act as admitting, attending, and/or consulting physician for hospitalized patients.
• Provide accurate documentation to meet insurance requirements and appeal denials promptly.
• Participate in inpatient and outpatient consultations, including on-call schedules, for your specialty.

Qualifications

• Required Qualifications
• Medical degree from an accredited institution.
• Valid medical license to practice in the state of Michigan.
• Board certification or eligibility in the relevant specialty.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a hospital or clinical setting.
• Participation in academic or research programs.
