Job Description

Specialty: Orthopedic Surgery

Practice Structure

Combination of clinic and call responsibilities, encompassing both inpatient and outpatient services.

Schedule

  • Full-time commitment, integrating inpatient and outpatient duties.
  • Call requirements: 10-11 days per month.
  • Call shifts span from 7 AM to 7 AM.
  • Non-call working hours will primarily involve outpatient clinic and OR responsibilities.
  • Clinic Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Proposed Office Days: Monday and Wednesday (subject to negotiation)
  • Proposed OR Days: Tuesday and Thursday (subject to negotiation)

Scope of Practice

  • Full-spectrum Orthopedic Surgery with a preference for candidates with a trauma background, covering all musculoskeletal trauma and elective procedures.
  • Office responsibilities to include handling new and established patients, performing injections and procedures, addressing elective surgeries, reassessing follow-ups from emergency cases, and managing comprehensive outpatient orthopedic care.
  • Call duties to involve consultations, rounding, emergent surgical interventions, general orthopedic care, and responsibilities in a level 2 trauma center.

Clinical Support

  • Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) available in the clinic, contingent on current patient volume; no supervision needed for APPs.

Technology

  • Utilization of EPIC for Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Dragon for dictation.

Qualifications

  • Must possess comprehensive experience in orthopedic surgery.
  • Trauma background is preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) is required.

Case Logs

  • Must provide documentation of performing 50 orthopedic surgery cases within the last 12 months.

Proctoring Requirements

  • Proctoring required for the initial five surgical cases performed.

Credentialing Timeline

  • Credentialing typically takes around 30 days; however, applications are prioritized based on the intended start date.

Candidate Evaluation

  • Candidate must meet all specified job qualifications.
  • Board Certified (or actively Board Eligible).
  • Background check returns clear.
  • Office of Inspector General (OIG) search clears.
  • Active Michigan medical license/participation in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) is mandatory.

Requirements

Candidates must be Board Certified or Board Eligible with comprehensive experience in orthopedic surgery and a trauma background. An active Michigan medical license and Basic Life Support certification are mandatory.
