The Pulmonary Function Respiratory Therapist role within the Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital offers a unique chance to become part of a dynamic, collaborative interdisciplinary team. This position adds value to patient care and significantly assists individuals with breathing issues.

We currently offer an opportunity for a PRN, Pulmonary Function Respiratory Therapist to support newborn and pediatric patients in our Level 1 trauma center in Cleveland.

A Brief Overview

The therapist is learning and incorporating the mission statement and standards of behavior of his/her hospital or care facility. This therapist performs basic competencies within orientation and provides satisfactory respiratory therapy with minimum supervision.

  • Mechanical ventilation
  • Medicated aerosol delivery
  • Airway clearance therapy
  • Patient monitoring

Oxygen and Humidity Therapy

  • Special procedures (CPR, specialty gases, bronchoscopy, transport, etc.)
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Education

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory (Required) or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory (Required)
  • Work Experience
  • 1+ years Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)
  • Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (Preferred)
  • Current RCP Ohio License granted by the Ohio Medical Board (Required)
  • American Association for Respiratory Care membership (Preferred)
  • NRP Certified (Neonatal facilities) (Required within 6 Months)

Position Details/Preferred Qualifications

Must have at least one year of recent PFT experience, 2-3 years is strongly preferred. Previous work with pediatrics is also preferred. Having a CPFT or RPFT is ideal but not required. In this role, the PRN RRT will administer pulmonary function testing on children ages 5-18 and adults in physician’s offices located inside Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, as well as affiliated clinics in surrounding suburbs.

Key Responsibilities

Administer pulmonary function testing for children and adults within hospital offices and affiliated clinics. Provide respiratory therapy services including mechanical ventilation and airway clearance in a Level 1 trauma center.

Requirements

Requires an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy, RRT certification, BLS, and an Ohio RCP license. At least one year of recent PFT experience is required, with pediatric experience and NRP certification preferred.
