Job Description
The Specialty Division Chief will be accountable for the quality-of-care delivery and the workforce (MD/DO/NP/PA) in their Specialty. Their focus will be on clinical quality, human resources, risk management, JMMG Policies, and specialty specific issues around the totality of clinical care.
The Chief will also work to integrate clinical care delivery across specialties within JMMG and external to JMMG. They report to the JMMG VP/Chair of Clinical Care but will also support JMMG staffing operations.
JMMG’s priority is to pursue the underlying community health mission by managing the complexity of the organization with its many stakeholders. The scope of services provided by JMMG includes direct clinical service staffing, management operations, and strategic partnerships.
Principal Accountabilities
Clinical Quality
- Quality will include specialty specific implementation of evidence-based guidelines, qualitative appraisals of clinician quality inclusive of chart reviews, and quantitative quality measures (process and outcomes) as commonly used by CMS, Specialty societies, etc. Quality will also include the comprehensive care of patients (clinicians working at top of specialty training) with appropriate referrals and continuity of care longitudinally.
- The Chiefs are expected to have high knowledge and awareness of specialty specific innovations, culture, and workforce issues not apparent to others. Chiefs will manage these complexities and contextualize the broader clinical enterprise with effective leadership.
- They will undergo JMH Management system training.
Human Resources
- Human resource management includes following hiring best practices, onboarding/mentoring/evaluation of pre-partners and ongoing evaluation of partners, disciplinary actions including addressing grievances and quality concerns. Because they will be managing HR issues, Chiefs will sign off on all hires into their division. Chiefs will also contribute to clinician well-being and fulfillment in their career with JMMG.
Risk Management
- Risk Management will include understanding when to delegate quality concerns to JMH Peer Review and mitigating Employment Practice Legal risk.
Program, Policies and Procedures
- Clinical Program and policy accountability. Chiefs are responsible for clinical programming and design. Chiefs are also responsible for developing policies and collaborating with operational leadership for procedures: for example, policies regarding call duty, jeopardy, and scheduling for the division.
- Chiefs will faithfully know and implement JMMG Policies and Procedures and assist medical directors in managing operations/projects.
- Chiefs will work with CFO in managing incentive compensation programs for their divisions.
- Some Chiefs may also have JMH Administrative responsibilities which are under the purview of JMH Management.
Experience and Qualification
- MD/DO degree with current Board Certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) approved specialty
- 5 years of Clinical Experience in Specialty
- Greater than or equal to 0.5 FTE Clinical Effort expected
- Expectation is full commitment to JMMG without Outside Employment
Key Responsibilities
The Specialty Division Chief is responsible for overseeing clinical quality, workforce management, and risk mitigation within their specialty. They will lead clinical programming, develop policies, and ensure the integration of care delivery across the organization.
Requirements
Candidates must hold an MD or DO degree with current Board Certification in an ABMS-approved specialty. A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in the specialty is required.
