The Triage Department APP delivers care aligned with a defined scope of practice in OB Triage, with work expectations operationalized through departmental workflows, productivity standards, and performance expectations consistent with the CBA and institutional policies.

This role is structured to meet contract-defined work expectations of 125 12-hour shifts per year for 0.75 cFTE, inclusive of weekdays and exclusive of night, holiday, or weekend coverage, aligned with the clinical coverage model and patient care needs of the service.

The Triage Department APP will participate in departmental scheduling processes, including weekdays, with scheduling practices aligned to contract provisions, equitable distribution of coverage, and maintenance of safe, consistent clinical operations.

This position is represented by the Oregon Nurses Association, Advance Practice United, subject to the active collective bargaining agreement.

Function/Duties of Position

Clinical

  • Work with pregnant individuals who present for evaluation to Triage
  • Practice Area: Ambulatory; practice type: shared
  • Clinical coverage requirement: daytime only; may be called to deliveries for OR First Assist
  • Department specific activities: Independent evaluation and management of appropriate triage patients of any gestational age. As assigned by medical and inpatient directors

Concurrent Precepting of Multidiscipilary Learners

All APPs are expected to support the clinical, education, and research mission of OHSU through routine clinical care that includes working with students, trainees, and patients participating in research, consistent with their role, scope of practice, and applicable contract and institutional policies

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Successful completion of a Master Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing or relevant Doctoral degree in the specialty of Certified Nurse Midwife
  • OR
  • Successful completion of a Master Degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies from an accredited program.

Experience

  • 2 years full scope as hospital CNM
  • OR
  • 2 years PA with experience in hospital perinatal care

Job Related Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced fetal monitoring skills
  • 1st and 3rd trimester ultrasound skills
  • AND

Physician Assistant/Associate must provide documentation of either completion of OB/Gyn focused fellowship (than includes vaginal birth) or provide evidence of prior experience in vaginal deliveries

Current RN and APRN NP / CNM licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing.

Current national AMCB/ACNM Certification.

Current BLS certification

DEA license

Current NRP certification

Working Conditions

  • Frequent Interruptions in an environment of frequent changes and fluctuations
  • May be exposed to excessive auditory and visual stimulation.
  • May be required to attend out of town conferences according to School of Nursing travel and reimbursement policies.
  • May be exposed to body fluids, tissue, possible radiation exposure, and infectious processes.
  • Subject to computer work for several hours, as needed.
  • Able to use all appropriate patient care equipment and office equipment within work area
  • Able to self-regulate for meals and biobreaks

Physical Deminads and Equipment Usage

  • Standing: On concrete, vinyl, or carpeting up to 4 hours per day and intermittently
  • Sitting: Chair or stool continuous up to 8 hours per day and intermittently
  • Changing Position: Intermittently, as needed.
  • Walking: Intermittently up to 4 hours per day on concrete, vinyl, and carpeting
  • Carrying: Up to 50 pounds (supplies, equipment, books, papers, etc) for intermittent periods and distances.
  • Lifting: Up to 50 pounds (patients, equipment, supplies, books, etc) Intermittent throughout the day
  • Pushing/Pulling: Up to 100 pounds, intermittent, throughout the day
  • Bending: From the waist and knees, frequently throughout the day
  • Reaching/Handling: Fine manipulation, repetitive, gross motor requiring full ROM in upper extremities, including overhead reaching.
  • Twisting: All ROM required, intermittent periods, throughout the day
  • Climbing: Staircase, intermittently throughout the day
