Job Description
Akicita Federal, a tribally owned small business affiliated with the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, is recruiting board-certified or board-eligible family medicine physicians to provide primary care for the Indian Health Service in northern Minnesota. You’ll care for American Indian patients of all ages at Cass Lake Indian Hospital, the White Earth Service Unit, and associated clinics.
- $364,000 - $374,400 a year
- Monday through Friday, 8-hour days between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM
- No weekends, no federal holidays, no overtime
- Approximately 10 patients per day
What You’ll Do
Provide comprehensive primary care across family practice, pediatrics, and internal medicine, with the flexibility to support the ER when needed
- Take histories, perform physical exams, and develop treatment plans
- Independently order labs, imaging, medications, and referrals in the EHR
- Review abnormal lab and x-ray results daily and ensure follow-up
- Coordinate outside referrals through the IHS Purchased/Referred Care process
Required Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited institution
Board Certified or Board Eligible
At least 2 years of postgraduate training in a nationally recognized primary care specialty (Family Medicine preferred)
At least 2 years of clinical practice within the last 3 years (residency counts; administrative or non-clinical roles do not)
Able to Treat Patients of All Ages
- Current, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico
- Current DEA registration
- Current BLS certification (AHA)
- U.S. citizenship, or otherwise meet applicable requirements
- Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and EHRs.
- Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity in working with patients from diverse backgrounds

Provide comprehensive primary care across family practice, pediatrics, and internal medicine while managing patient treatment plans and EHR documentation. Coordinate care through referrals and support emergency room operations when necessary.
Requirements
Requires an MD or DO degree with board certification or eligibility and at least two years of postgraduate clinical experience. Candidates must hold an unrestricted medical license, current DEA registration, and BLS certification.
