Per Diem / On-Call Pharmacist

The Per Diem Pharmacist reports to the Pharmacist-in-Charge/Pharmacy Manager and supports daily specialized compounding and pharmacy operations.

• Proficiency or familiarity with compounding pharmacy software, master formulation records, and third-party billing
• Solid knowledge of custom formulations, dosing calculations, ingredient compatibility, and patient counseling
• Proficient in pharmacy math
• High attention to detail, precision, and adherence to quality assurance standards

Responsibilities

Review, verify, and accurately compound non-sterile (and/or sterile) custom formulations in accordance with USP regulations

• Perform final checks on compounded preparations, raw materials, equipment calibration, and batch records
• Counsel patients and consult with prescribers regarding custom formulations, alternative dosage forms, and therapy modifications
• Supervise, train, and support compounding technicians and pharmacy staff
• Ensure strict compliance with state board regulations, FDA guidelines, DEA rules, and HIPAA requirements

Maintain chemical inventory, hazardous drug handling protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and a clean, compliant laboratory environment

Work Environment

• Specialized compounding laboratory / pharmacy setting; standing and lifting up to 25 lbs required
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required (e. g., lab coats, masks, gloves, safety goggles)
• Flexible scheduling, including coverage for vacations, leave, and peak volume needs
• English required; Spanish a plus
• Compensation & Benefits: Rate of Pay: $60.00 - $62.00 per hour

Requirements

• BS or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy
• Active pharmacist license in good standing with the state Board of Pharmacy
• Successful completion of internship requirements and NAPLEX (and state law exam)
• Ability to pass background checks (criminal, Medicare exclusion, fingerprinting)
• Preferred: 3–5 years of retail, independent, or clinical pharmacy experience
