Job Description
The Residential Care Counselor is responsible for providing a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for children in a residential treatment setting. As a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, this role helps develop, implement, monitor, and document individualized treatment plans while supporting children in their daily routines and overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety, supervision, and care of assigned children.
- Maintain a therapeutic and structured residential environment.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and updating individualized treatment plans.
- Monitor and document child observations, behaviors, and treatment progress.
- Support children with daily living activities, personal hygiene, and life skills.
- Build positive therapeutic relationships with children and families.
- Participate in admissions, assessments, treatment team meetings, and shift reports.
- Communicate treatment goals and progress with team members and other care providers.
- Respond to behavioral challenges and crisis situations using approved intervention techniques.
- Report and document critical incidents in a timely and accurate manner.
- Help develop and implement behavioral management strategies.
- Organize and participate in therapeutic, recreational, and program activities.
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating appropriate and therapeutic interactions.
- Follow all hospital, departmental, and program policies and procedures.
- Maintain required certifications and complete ongoing staff development and training.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a Human Services-related field preferred. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Six months to one year of direct care experience working with children or adolescents with emotional or behavioral health needs.
- Knowledge of child development, behavioral health, and culturally responsive care.
- Current or eligible for: Bradley Hospital Crisis Management Certification CPR Certification ERS, Safety, and OSHA Certifications
- Supervisory Responsibility

Requirements
Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in a human services-related field and six months to one year of direct care experience with children or adolescents. Required certifications include CPR and crisis management, along with knowledge of behavioral health and child development.
