Clinical Health Psychologist - Parkinson's and Movement Disorders Specialty

The Division of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Kansas Health System is seeking applications for a Clinical Health Psychologist – Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Specialty to serve individuals as part of our interdisciplinary Parkinson’s and movement disorders team, which includes neurology, neurosurgery, neuropsychology, dietetics, research, social work, physical therapy, and speech & language pathology. The individual selected for this position will join a rapidly growing, 24-member Psychology Division at the Assistant Professor level.

Key Responsibilities

This position includes assessment, treatment, psychoeducation, and triage of outpatients with mental health needs; presurgical psychological evaluations for patients preparing for neurosurgical procedures, including deep brain stimulation (DBS); and the provision of evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy targeting physical symptoms and medical condition management.

The successful candidate will participate in the education and supervision of psychology interns within our APA-accredited training program and provide additional didactic instruction and supervision to medical fellows, residents, and students. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with faculty on scholarly activities and providing health education and outreach to the local Parkinson's disease community.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate Degree in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program (with an APA approved clinical internship)

One-year of relevant post-doctoral experience in health psychology

Must be fully licensed or licensable in the State of Kansas (primary) and Missouri by the time of the appointment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience Working on a Multidisciplinary Team

Training in cognitive behavioral therapy protocols especially relevant for chronic physical illness populations (e. g., CBT for insomnia and for chronic pain; behavioral techniques for sexual dysfunction, chronic illness management, smoking cessation)
