Mental Health Therapist Opportunity

The Mental Health Therapist (Outpatient) provides evidence-based mental health and substance use assessment, diagnosis, and psychotherapy services to individuals, families, and groups in an outpatient setting. This role supports recovery, wellness, and stability by delivering person-centered, trauma-informed care while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and community partners to meet the needs of diverse populations.

What You’ll Get

• The starting pay range for a fully licensed Mental Health Therapist is $75,712 - $82,430 based on education and experience.
• This job is a full-time, in person position.
• This role will be at the Wausau clinic 3 days per week and the Merrill clinic 2 days per week.

• As a full-time employee of NCHC, you are eligible for the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS). The WRS is a hybrid defined benefit plan. It contains elements of both a 401(k) or defined contribution plan and a defined benefit plan. Participating staff contribute 7.2% and NCHC will match this at 100% each pay period!

What You Bring

Required

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Professional Counseling, or a related human services field from an accredited institution
• Current State of Wisconsin licensure as one of the following (no in-training

Licenses Will Be Accepted)

• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
• Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
• Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
• Licensed Psychologist

• Demonstrated skill in clinical assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic intervention
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and adapt to change

Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license and maintain unrestricted driving privileges throughout employment and have use of a personal vehicle.

Preferred

• Two or more years of outpatient mental health and/or substance use treatment

experience

What a Mental Health Therapist Does at NCHC

Mental Health Therapist

• Conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and risk screenings using evidence-based tools and clinical judgment
• Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized, person-centered treatment plans in collaboration with clients
• Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy for clients with mental health and/or substance use disorders across the lifespan
• Monitor client progress, adjust interventions as needed, and complete discharge planning and aftercare coordination
• Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic medical record, including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, billing entries, and summaries
• Provide crisis intervention services as needed, including emergency response, mobile crisis support, or backup coverage
• Coordinate care and collaborate with internal teams, schools, social services, medical providers, and community agencies
• Provide consultation, education, and outreach to community partners and stakeholders
• Participate in team meetings, case consultations, supervision, and required trainings
• Maintain flexibility in scheduling, including in-office, community-based, and telehealth services, to meet client needs
• Adhere to professional ethics, licensure requirements, confidentiality standards, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
• Complete required continuing education and training activities.
• Deliver services in compliance with applicable federal, state, and agency regulations
• Ensure documentation meets clinical, regulatory, and billing standards
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Environment and Physical Requirements

• Primarily indoor, office-based clinical environment with community-based services as needed

• Requires visual, hearing, and communication abilities sufficient to ensure client safety and effective care delivery
• Weekly travel between Wausau and Merril locations
