At Cedarcrest, our Speech-Language Pathologists play an important role in helping children and young adults develop communication skills, improve their ability to express their needs, and reach their individual goals.
Working alongside an interdisciplinary team, you’ll provide personalized speech therapy services, evaluations, treatment, and consultation for inpatients and day students.
This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with families, educators, nursing staff, and fellow therapy professionals to support each child’s communication, feeding, and overall development. Primary Responsibilities 1. Provides direct care services for residents and day students.
Completes initial evaluations upon receipt of physician approval and documents findings in the child’s chart in preparation for team evaluation and planning. Assesses children’s receptive and expressive language levels.
Evaluates alternative and augmentative communication needs and assists in procuring appropriate adaptive equipment. Assesses children’s oral motor skills and creates therapeutic meal plans in consultation with the Occupational Therapist.
Plans therapy programs for each child in consultation with the interdisciplinary team. Provides direct treatment when indicated based on planned therapy programs. Develops programs that promote language skill development and can be carried out by education and nursing staff and families.
Works closely with Occupational and Physical Therapy staff. Determines the need for community services to assist in meeting each child’s needs. Lifts, transfers, and positions children according to established guidelines. Assists with transition and discharge assessment and planning. 2.
Provides consultation services to staff and families and agency representatives. Monitors the appropriateness of children’s communication goals, programs, and equipment. Monitors the ongoing hearing and audiological status of children. Provides consultation to families, classroom staff, and nursing staff.
Monitors the repair status of children’s communication equipment. Instructs residents, staff, and families in the care and use of hearing aids, Passy Muir valves, and communication devices. Instructs families and staff in therapeutic meal plans, dysphagia, and oral motor stimulation. 3.
Provides outreach services as arranged by the Director of Rehab Services. Travels to schools, homes, or agencies in the region to provide services outlined in service contracts and assigned by the Director of Rehab Services. Maintains records as outlined by the terms of the agreement. 4.
Provides support services, as indicated. Oversees the development of communication materials. Provides training on the proper use of hearing aids and auditory trainers. Documents evaluations, treatment, and progress for medical and educational records.
Participates in the development of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Total Plan of Care. Maintains records of treatment services provided for billing purposes. Participates in resident care meetings, team meetings, and department meetings. Provides in-service education within Cedarcrest.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program. Licensed and registered as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of New Hampshire. ASHA certification required. Two years of pediatric experience preferred.
