The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO), promotes high quality, patient-centered care by assisting the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in executive-level management of resources, strategic planning, and development.
The ACNO has operational and functional responsibility for a group of patient care areas and/or special projects or initiatives. Develops communication, knowledge, leadership, professionalism, and business skills necessary to advance to a CNO.
The ACNO will serve on various committees of the hospital, while collaborating with the Kaweah Health leadership, the hospital management team, and the medical staff. Plans, leads, organizes, directs & evaluates the delivery of patient care to achieve sustained outcomes.
Key components of this leadership role include monitoring of quality, patient satisfaction, and budgeting standards, while managing to achieve hospital and organization wide goals.
Qualifications
License /Certification
Required: CA RN license
National leadership board certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) NE-BC; NEA-BC within 2 years.
Education
Required
- BSN
- Master's degree in nursing, health care, business, or related discipline.
Experience
Required
Six years’ experience in patient care management including nursing management.
Experience in managing clinical services in a managed care environment, including productivity enhancement, cost reduction, new program development, and quality management is also required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Demonstrate the ability to affect good medical staff relations while working with highly qualified physicians.
Job Responsibilities
Essential
Ensures that a continuous improvement approach is implemented to measure actual performance against established standards for clinical and non-clinical services throughout the hospital and organization.
Develops and implements mechanisms to ensure a uniform quality of nursing and patient care wherever nursing and patient care is provided.
Ensures a method to monitor customer satisfaction with respect to services delivered, utilizing corporate and/or unit specific tools.
Conducts regular rounds with patients, families, staff, and physicians to strengthen communication, ensure operational alignment, and promote a world-class experience.
Ensures follow-up to patient complaints and occurrence reports is thorough and timely. Identifies system problems that may contribute to errors and monitors corrective actions to ensure effective resolution.
Establishes mechanisms to encourage research and to incorporate research findings into standards of care and policies and procedures.
Measures actual budgetary performance (revenue, expense, staffing) against standards, and ensures variances are within established targets.
Evaluates performance of persons reporting to the position against organizational, departmental, and personal goals and objectives.
- Ensures that safety, health, and regulatory standards are attained in the divisions/departments assigned.
- Ensures that a program is maintained to encourage the recruitment and retention of high-quality team members.
- Participate in professional and community activities.
- Develops and implements personal goals and objectives that support the organization’s strategic/operating plans and patient care services.
- Assures that professional nursing standards are effectively carried out throughout hospital.
- Provides accountability and coordination of nursing services within the hospital.
- Establishes budget requirements and maintains areas of responsibility within budgetary limitation.
- Speaks on behalf of hospital allied nursing services in established meetings of hospital leadership, medical staff, and governing bodies.
- Develop staff to make effective decisions and delegates authority to lowest appropriate level.
- Acts as resource person and role model for staff.
Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues related to nursing services, and manages situations to reduce risk to patients, staff, and the organization.
Participates in meetings where discussion is held regarding hospital's mission, strategic planning, budget planning, operational planning and review of policies that directly or indirectly affect patient care, customer satisfaction, quality and/or operations of the hospital.
Serves as a member of various hospital and organizational committees.
Collaborates with other hospital leaders and educators to influence curriculum, including clinical and/or management learning experience.
Participates with the CNO in developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising nursing practice and ensures implementation of the nursing process.
Establishes and maintains an open and positive working relationship with board members, physicians, managers, employees, patients and visitors and the community.
Participates with leaders from management, medical staff and patient care areas in hospital's decision-making structure and process.
Participates in evaluating, selecting, and integrating health care technology and information management systems that support nursing service needs.
Participates in any contract or negotiations, which nursing services of the hospital. Monitors’ compliance of contracts.
Recruits, develops, retains, and evaluates qualified managers and staff members, recognizing the full accomplishments of staff assigned duties and responsibilities.
Participates actively with Kaweah Health Executive Team and the Patient Care Directors
Develops, interprets, and promotes the formation of the philosophy, policies, and procedures of Kaweah Health.
Additional Responsibilities
Assists in the professional development of personnel.
Maintains, revises, and implements changes in nursing policies and procedures to meet all licensing agency requirements, (i. e., Joint Commission, local and state regulatory agencies).
- Participates in developing hospital budgets for nursing with input from managers and other hospital personnel.
- Collaborates with CNO and educators to influence curriculum, including clinical and/or management learning experience.
- Participates in a local or professional nursing organization.
- Travels to other Kaweah Health sites to attend meetings and educational opportunities.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
- Performs others duties as assigned.
Pay Range
$103.85 -$155.78
