Job Description
This is a contract, on-site position that offers a unique opportunity to provide essential night-shift coverage in a dynamic Medical Practice environment. As a critical care provider, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care during overnight hours, ensuring continuity and stability for our patients and the care team.
In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of intensivists, nurses, and specialists to manage complex, critically ill patients. Your responsibilities will include performing comprehensive assessments, initiating and managing treatment plans, and responding to acute changes in patient conditions. The position requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence in critical care medicine.
Responsibilities
- Provide overnight critical care coverage in an on-site hospital or intensive care setting.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as labs, imaging, and electrocardiograms.
- Develop, implement, and manage individualized treatment plans for critically ill patients.
- Prescribe and adjust medications and therapies as needed.
- Perform procedures within scope of practice, such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, and intubation assistance.
- Monitor and respond to acute changes in patient condition, initiating emergency interventions when necessary.
- Collaborate with intensivists, nursing staff, and consulting specialists to coordinate care.
- Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding care plans and prognosis.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in handoff and shift transition processes to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements
Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state of Pennsylvania.
Associate level experience in critical care or acute care settings.
Must have skills: Proficiency in managing critically ill patients, strong clinical assessment abilities, and competence in critical care procedures.
Must have skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration and patient interaction.
- Must have skills: Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions during night shifts.
- Preferred skills: Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and familiarity with ICU protocols.
- Preferred skills: Advanced certifications such as ACLS, BLS, or FCCS.
- Education: Master's degree or equivalent from an accredited NP or PA program.
- Active DEA license and ability to prescribe controlled substances.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina and emotional resilience to handle overnight shifts and high-pressure situations.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with critical care best practices.
Schedule: 7p-7a, 7 on/7 off
Patient Census: 10-15 per day
Mixed medical/surgical ICU population
Will participate in code blue calls and rapid responses
Required Procedures: Central venous catheter placement and peripheral arterial line placement
Must be board-certified
BLS required
