Position: Counselor Advocate
Department: Queens-Manhattan Community Program
- Location(s): Manhattan, with frequent travel to Queens (Hybrid)
- Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
- Pay Rate: $30.22/hour ($55,000 annually)

Established by Black and Latina activists in 1984, the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) is NYC’s only culturally specific organization with a mission to address domestic and sexual violence within Latine communities.
Each year, we provide intensive support and services to 3,500+ survivors and children and reach 15,000+ community members through community events and preventive education. We are committed to developing innovative programs that respond to the needs of our diverse community and reflect our organizational values.

As a Counselor Advocate, you’ll provide trauma-informed counseling, case management, advocacy, and crisis intervention to survivors as they work toward safety and stability. We’re looking for someone who can build trusting relationships, navigate complex systems and challenging situations with compassion and sound judgment, and work collaboratively to connect survivors with the resources and support they need.
What You'll Do
Provide trauma-informed case management and supportive counseling, including needs assessments, individualized service plans, and safety planning.
Advocate for and support survivors navigating legal, immigration, housing, public benefits, education, healthcare, and other systems.
- Connect survivors with appropriate resources and services through referrals, advocacy, and accompaniment.
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes, reports, and other required documentation while protecting survivor privacy and confidentiality.
- Facilitate bilingual support groups and participate in community outreach and educational workshops as needed.
- Collaborate with VIP staff and external providers and participate in supervision, trainings, case conferences, and program meetings.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements and provide program coverage in Manhattan or Queens as needed.
