Purpose: The IOP/PHP Dietitian creates nutrition plans to improve the health and physical conditions of IOP/PHP program clients. Their main duties include analyzing clients’ health status, goals, and dietary restrictions, tracking clients’ dietary intake and progress, and educating clients on how to maintain a balanced diet.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete Nutrition assessments and regular follow ups with IOP/PHP clients with mood, anxiety, and eating disorders
- Develop and support clients in treatment goals related to nutrition and modify as needed
- Responsible for daily documentation including but not limited to, nutrition assessments, meal plans, and meal support
- Provide meal/snack support and supervision
- Provided Nutrition Groups as needed
- Educate staff and parents on individualized meal plan
- Complete client documentation in EMR system
- Coordinate with outside providers as needed
- Coordinate and manage client weekly meal/snack ordering
- Reinforce clinical services and staff adherence to the practice’s values of care, quality and growth
- Exhibit competency behaviors of the following: informally collaborate in the office with team members, friendly engagement in the office to support our hive culture, and contribute to the hive mind with knowledge and expertise
- Complete continuing education courses to maintain Illinois state licensure
Clinician Competencies
- Demonstrates the ability to conduct a thorough nutritional assessment of patients with eating disorders, including collecting relevant information such as weight history, dietary habits, body image, and medical history.
- Demonstrates the ability to develop and implement an individualized treatment plan that includes appropriate goals and interventions, taking into consideration the specific needs of each patient.
- Demonstrates The ability to provide effective nutritional counseling to patients with eating disorders, using evidence-based strategies to promote healthy eating habits and behaviors.
- Demonstrates the ability to create meal plans that meet the unique nutritional needs of patients with eating disorders, while also addressing any dietary restrictions or food preferences.
- Demonstrates competence, continued training, and is knowledgeable around trauma-informed care.
- Demonstrates The ability to monitor patient progress and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment interventions, making modifications as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Demonstrates competence and is knowledgeable about adolescent developmental milestones, as evidenced by applying proficient knowledge when using the assessment tool, documenting thoroughly and accurately within the client's health record, and completes the screening within the timeline outlined in the policy and procedure.
- Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with other members of the treatment team, including therapists, psychiatrists, and medical providers, to provide comprehensive care to patients with eating disorders.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the various types of eating disorders, including their signs and symptoms, comorbidities, and evidence-based treatment approaches.
- Demonstrates the ability to provide culturally sensitive care to patients from diverse backgrounds, including awareness of cultural factors that may impact eating behaviors and attitudes towards food.
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain professional boundaries, adhere to ethical principles, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and other members of the treatment team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nutrition or related degree (Required)
- Masters degree in nutrition or related degree (Preferred)
- Registered Dietitian License in Illinois (preferred)
- 2 years of experience working with Eating Disorders (required)
- Previous experience working with children and adolescents (required)
- Previous experience in higher levels of care (required)
- Compassionate and caring demeanor
- Ability to quickly build rapport with clients
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and be dependable
- Able to work independently and in a team environment
