Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon - Reconstructive Microsurgery

The Department of Surgery at Duke University School of Medicine and Duke University Health System is seeking a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with fellowship training and/or significant experience in reconstructive microsurgery to join the Division of Plastic, Maxillofacial, and Oral Surgery. This position supports the continued growth of our complex reconstruction programs across clinical, academic, and educational missions.

Academic rank will be commensurate with experience. Candidates may be considered for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor roles.

Position Highlights

Academic faculty appointment within the Duke University School of Medicine

Practice emphasis on complex oncologic, traumatic, and lymphatic reconstruction, including breast reconstruction

Opportunity to participate in super-microsurgical and lymphatic surgery programs, including advanced approaches to tissue transplantation and complex reconstruction following cancer and trauma

Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across surgical oncology, trauma, orthopaedics, otolaryngology, breast surgery, and other specialties

Opportunities for clinical practice, teaching, research, and program development

The Duke Division of Plastic, Maxillofacial, and Oral Surgery has a longstanding tradition of excellence in patient care, technical innovation, research, and education. Since its establishment in 1934, the Division has advanced the fields of plastic and reconstructive surgery through clinical innovation, academic leadership, and a commitment to training future leaders in the specialty.

The Division provides comprehensive care for congenital and acquired conditions and offers expertise across a broad spectrum of reconstructive and plastic surgery. Clinical programs include complex reconstruction, breast reconstruction, microsurgery, craniofacial surgery, trauma reconstruction, hand surgery and transplantation, lymphedema surgery, body contouring, aesthetic surgery, and other specialized services.

Duke is also recognized for its contributions to microsurgical and super-microsurgical reconstruction, including advanced approaches to tissue transplantation, lymphatic surgery, and complex reconstruction following cancer, trauma, and other conditions.

Qualifications

• MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
• Completion of an accredited plastic surgery residency program
• Board certification or board eligibility in Plastic Surgery
• Eligibility for medical licensure in North Carolina
• Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, education, and academic advancement
• Microsurgical fellowship training and/or significant microsurgical experience preferred
• Candidates at all academic ranks—Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor—will be considered
