Position Overview

  • Sign-on Bonus: $6,000
  • Department: Respiratory Therapy
  • Schedule: Full-time Nights
  • Work Location: UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham

The Respiratory Therapy team supports hospital-wide patient care, managing conditions like asthma and respiratory distress. This team plays a vital role in improving patient outcomes.

What You Will Do

  • Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
  • Assess patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop a plan of care based on diagnosis.

Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition. Perform advanced respiratory care modalities.

  • Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcome.
  • Educate the patient and family about the health condition and provides information about community support groups and other available programs.
  • Respond to emergency resuscitation team code.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Respiratory Therapist specializing in Registered credentialed from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the Alabama Board of Respiratory Therapy obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Certification specializing in Neonatal Resuscitation credentialed from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) preferred.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.

Key Responsibilities

The Registered Respiratory Therapist provides evaluation and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies and develops individualized treatment plans. They also monitor patient conditions, perform advanced respiratory modalities, and participate in emergency resuscitation efforts.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a valid Respiratory Therapist credential from the NBRC and the Alabama Board of Respiratory Therapy. A BLS certification is required within 30 days of hire, and graduation from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy is mandatory.
