Job Description
Position: Counselor (Per Diem)
The Counselor is responsible for the delivery and implementation of long term supervision, support, and clinical services to a population of chemically dependent adolescents with co-occurring ad mental health problems.
Essential Duties
- Initial and ongoing screening of resident and resident property in accordance with unit procedure.
- Supervise clients in self-medication (under supervision).
- Complete assessments, intakes, and participates in level of care determined by gathering appropriate data, orienting client to his/her rights and responsibilities and program expectations.
- Facilitate admission/referral to other programs or agencies for clients in need of services not offered at unit.
- Provide individual, group, and/or family counseling services in a professional, ethical, and competent manner.
- Manages all aspects of assigned caseload during treatment, with special attention to appropriate levels of care and appropriate clinical interventions.
- Complete all needed documentation and reports in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with referents and other collateral contacts (i. e. Probation, Parole, CPS, managed care, E.A.P.’s, courts. Etc.) through timely written, phone, computerized, or other responses.
- Maintain communication and teamwork with clinical staff to integrate and enhance clinical services.
- Communicate all pertinent information, incidents, and emergencies using the appropriate system including the SAC communication long, incident reports, and/or elopement reports.
- Provide overall supervision and management of client population in the facilitation of the daily house schedule.
- Facilitate service groups.
- Conduct toxicology testing, as needed.
- Exercise due diligence in the delivery of quality care in line with the agency Medicaid Compliance Plan and systems of accountability.
- Insure communication through the compliance officer and/or the supervisory structure of any violation of non-compliance with the agency’s Medicaid compliance plan and personnel policy and procedure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- CASAC-T, CASAC, or higher preferred.
- 1 year of experience working with clients with substance abuse disorders.
- 1 year of experience working with adolescents with co-occurring and mental health problems.
- 1 year of experience working in an OASAS funded facility a plus.

- Flexibility in scheduling, if needed.
- Excellent organizational management skills with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance clinicians, set and achieve program objectives.
- Strong networking and public relations skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders, populations, and cultures.
- Action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative approach to program planning.
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
Key Responsibilities
The counselor provides long-term clinical support, supervision, and treatment planning for adolescents with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health issues. Responsibilities include conducting intakes, facilitating group sessions, managing caseloads, and maintaining compliance with agency and Medicaid standards.
Requirements
Candidates should possess a CASAC-T, CASAC, or higher certification along with at least one year of experience working with substance abuse and adolescent mental health. Strong organizational, networking, and clinical documentation skills are required to effectively manage the assigned caseload.
