Job Description

McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), clinical track faculty position in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the rank of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor.

We are seeking a collaborative, team-oriented Anatomic Pathologist to join our dynamic group. Join a growing subspecialized pathology service that supports the clinical and academic mission of UTHealth Houston. In this role, you will develop an innovative, externally funded, independent research program focused on fundamental and translational pathology, advancing scientific discovery and clinical impact.

Through our affiliation with Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, you will practice in a growing clinical environment with a wide variety of medical conditions and complex diagnostic challenges that supports both research opportunities and professional growth.

Position Key Accountabilities

Developing and sustaining an environment in the patient care units that supports excellence and innovation in clinical practice and patient care through assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and standards that support positive patient care outcomes, including excellent risk-adjusted outcomes.

Establishing and leading a robust, externally funded research program focused on fundamental and translational pathology.

Actively securing external grant funding and publishing high-impact research in peer-reviewed journals.

Providing training for residents, fellows, medical students, as well as develop an individual and//or collaborative research program.

Serve as a role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability, and interpersonal skills.

Collaborating with UTHealth and hospital administration and physicians to identify future opportunities, define the direction of department services; develop and implement plans to achieve identified goals.

Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-services, and current publications while supporting education and research initiatives.

Participating in autopsy services in the future.

Qualifications

M.D. or D.O.

  • Texas Medical License or eligibility for a Texas Faculty Temporary License.
  • Residency with board certification in Anatomic Pathology or AP/CP by the American Board of Pathology.

Formal fellowship training in a subspecialty, with experience in at least one of the following areas: Neuropathology, Cytopathology, Breast and Gynecologic Pathology, Molecular, Cardiovascular, Pediatrics, General Surgical Pathology, or Gastrointestinal.

Key Responsibilities

The pathologist will provide clinical diagnostic services while developing an independent, externally funded research program in fundamental and translational pathology. They will also participate in the training of residents, fellows, and medical students while collaborating with hospital administration to improve patient care outcomes.
