Job Description Summary

Student Health and Counseling (SHaC) seeks an energetic and dedicated Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner interested in collaborating with multi-disciplinary peers. Primary responsibilities include psychiatric evaluations and medication intervention and management for Penn students seeking treatment.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner reports to the Director of Integrated Care. The recently expanded program for Health & Wellness is part of an integrated approach to wellness that includes Student Health and Counseling and Public Health and Wellbeing.

Student Health and Counseling is composed of a multidisciplinary team of professionals including psychologists, social workers, counselors, psychiatrist, nurses, advanced practice nurses physicians and other healthcare professionals including trainees.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Provides direct clinical psychiatric services to students including diagnostic evaluations, and emergency consultations. Initiates care as appropriate.

• Provides direct clinicare care to students including medication management and maintenance.
• Collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, and trainees on the assessment and treatment of cases.
• Provides formal and informal supervision of psychiatric nurse practitioner interns.
• Provides on-call coverage during the day and after hours on a rotating basis.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• MSN and 3 to 5 years of experience is required.
• Licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, unrestricted federal DEA license.
• Experience in psychiatric treatment of adolescent/young adult population preferred.
• Experience with a college student population strongly preferred.
• Experience with electronic health records desirable.
• Experience providing crisis intervention, short-term counseling and referral services; psychiatric evaluations, and medication management.
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills and sensitivity to cross cultural issues.
• Demonstrated ability to perform supervisory and administrative functions.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other mental health professionals in providing high quality mental health services as part of a treatment team and consulting with other university personnel.

Demonstrated ability to provide consultation to SHaC staff, SHaC trainees, administration, faculty, staff, students, and families regarding mental health issues.

• Ability to assist in the hiring of new staff and also the selection of trainees as needed.
• Ability to work on-call schedule on a rotating basis.

Pay Range

$92,592.00 - $152,000.00 Annual Rate

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
