Social Worker A - Infectious Disease (Health Services)

Position Summary

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the
grantor.

Works under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor to assist clients
and implement established programs.

Pay Grade: 48

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

* Two (2) years of experience in professional social work; AND
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work approved by the
National Council on Social Work Education; AND
* Current State of Tennessee Social Worker licensure is required.
* PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Visits clients or agencies to obtain necessary information to provide
assistance.
* Confers with public and private agencies to communicate program and client
needs and make necessary arrangements.
* Makes referrals to proper agencies.
* Completes required casework and reports.
* Assists or initiates special studies or surveys.
* Conducts educational programs.
* Makes home visits to investigate and validate clients’ needs.
* Performs other related duties as required or directed.

KSAs

* Knowledge of social casework principles, methods, objectives, and case
management practices, including applicable regulations, agency policies, and
County procedures. 
* Knowledge of interviewing techniques, problem-solving methodologies, and
assessment of social and psychosocial issues affecting individuals and
families.
* Knowledge of human behavior, development, psychosocial dynamics, and
community resources within public social service systems.
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in
writing. 
* Ability to maintain professionalism with people of all economic and social
levels.
* Ability to use good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
* Ability to work express ideas clearly and concisely.
* Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word) and other County software applications.

Special Requirements

* Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one by the date of
employment.
* Must have access to an operable automobile and meet the County requirements
for automobile insurance upon the date of employment.
* May be required to travel to other Shelby County offices.
* Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and training credentials
throughout the duration of employment.

Physical Requirements

* The physical activities of this position may include walking, reaching,
kneeling, ascending/descending stairs, stooping, and repetitive motion. 
* Requires lifting and transporting materials and supplies up to 20 lbs.

Shelby County Resident Disclaimer

All employees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County
and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment.
The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service
employees. This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following
departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers
and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers
employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and
