Department Description

The Exercise Training Center (ETC) is an outpatient rehabilitation clinic located in the UW Medicine Roosevelt Building 2 in Seattle. The clinic is recognized for delivering exceptional patient-centered rehabilitation services in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Our team consists of experienced physical therapists, occupational therapists, certified hand therapists, and ancillary staff who work together to provide outstanding care while fostering a supportive and engaging workplace culture. The department values teamwork, continuous learning, clinical excellence, and innovation, making it an ideal environment for both experienced clinicians and those looking to continue developing their skills.

The clinic primarily serves patients with orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions, including postoperative rehabilitation, sports injuries, spine disorders, shoulder, hip, knee, foot and ankle conditions, chronic pain, balance disorders, and other outpatient rehabilitation needs. Therapists will have opportunities to collaborate closely with UW Medicine orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, rehabilitation medicine providers, and numerous specialty services across the health system.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision, the Physical Therapist evaluates, develops, implements, and progresses individualized treatment plans for patients receiving outpatient rehabilitation services.

Performs comprehensive physical therapy evaluations, establishing functional goals, providing evidence-based interventions, monitoring patient progress, and modifying plans of care as appropriate.

Provides patient and family education to promote independence and long-term success while ensuring safe, high-quality care.

Collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, occupational therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and administrative staff to coordinate patient-centered care and optimize access to rehabilitation services.

May participate in quality improvement initiatives, assist with program development, contribute to departmental projects, and provide clinical instruction and mentorship to physical therapy students as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Current Washington State license to practice as a Physical Therapist.

A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized school of physical therapy, or completion of a Physical Therapy program and one year relevant experience.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
