The Occupational Therapist specializing in Lymphedema evaluates and treats patients experiencing swelling and functional limitations related to primary or secondary lymphedema, often resulting from cancer treatment, lymph node removal, radiation therapy, vascular conditions, or congenital disorders.

This is a full-time role. A caregiver in this position will work Monday through Friday. Hours of coverage are 7:00am to 6:30pm with most days involving normal shifts. There will be at least one late day working 10:00am to 6:30pm. No weekends or holidays required.

A Caregiver Who Excels in This Role Will

Evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional, cognitive and/or psychosocial deficits which impact their abilities to successfully perform independent living skills.

Assess patient ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills and design the appropriate plan of care, including type and frequency of treatment.

Implement the treatment plan using appropriate modalities and document subjective and objective findings of patient progress.

  • Educate the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits.
  • Direct and supervise the activities of support personnel.
  • Act a clinical instructor or participate in the education and evaluation of students.
  • Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Bachelor’s Degree

  • Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association
  • Current Ohio licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Healthcare Provider Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Experience in Clinical Area

Experience working with lymphedema, certification with lymphedema highly preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling.

Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor.

Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program.

  • Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse.
  • Visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors.
  • Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families.

Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program and possess a current Ohio OT license. Additionally, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, with lymphedema experience highly preferred.
