Occupational Therapist School Based - School Based Therapy (Days) (PRN)

School-based occupational therapist performs evaluation and treatment of
impairment in functional status in daily living skills that are negatively
affecting a student's ability to meet educational goals. Occupational Therapists
provide consultation and other educational and advisory services for the purpose
of preventing or reducing the incidence and severity of physical disability,
bodily malfunction and pain, as defined by the IEP. The person in this position
provides services to the following populations: School-aged children (generally
ages 3-19)

Required Knowledge & Skills

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: No prior work experience required

Licenses and Certifications

Healthcare Provider (CPR)

Occupational Therapist

Supervision

Has limited supervision. May serve as supervisor to staff occupational therapy
assistants and or therapy aides if assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an
accredited institution.

Licensure by the Georgia State Board of Examiners of Occupational Therapy.

Comprehensive knowledge of occupational therapy treatment procedures.

NOTE: BLS within 30 days.

One year of related experience preferred.

Functions

Area of Responsibilities

Evaluates school-based patients and develops appropriate treatment plans to
include time defined therapy goals, in accordance with Individualized Education
Plan or as requested by school.

Coordinates occupational therapy treatment with other therapy and school
personnel as appropriate.

Delegates treatment implementation appropriately, based on the type of treatment
prescribed and level of training of support personnel. Instructs teachers and
other staff in follow through activities as indicated.

Completes discharge summaries in a timely manner, in accordance with current
policy.

Practices excellent communication skills with school staff, other involved
disciplines, students, and family members. Recognizes potential barriers or need
for change of tactics and reacts appropriately.

Consults with other school personnel to improve treatment effectiveness and
outcomes.

Develops treatment strategy and plan of care to meet IEP goals with input from
school staff, students, and families.

Maintains confidentiality.

Performs clerical and coordination duties as assigned.

Maintains student records to include all required documentation, legibly written
and completed within assigned time frames.

Participates in staff and IEP meetings as requested.

Supervises occupational therapy assistants, therapy aids, and student interns in
accordance with established guidelines.

Assists other therapy disciplines as needed.

Demonstrates dependability on the job. Reports to work on time. Notifies
supervisor of unscheduled absences as soon as possible. Organizes work schedule
effectively. Generally demonstrates high reliability.

Complies with standards set forth by TJC and other pertinent regulating agencies
as required.

Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities as
requested.

Performs other activities as assigned.

Demonstrates competency in patient care according to the age of the patient and
population served. a. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret
information in terms of patient's needs. b. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and
development. c. Demonstrates understanding of the range of treatment needed by
these patients (age and diagnosis).

Participates in staff and IEP meetings as requested.

Implements physical therapy treatment programs in accordance with established
