Physician Assistant

• vision of the Medical Director. *Role may need to float to other locations Essential Functions: Practices within the scope of the California Board of Registered Nursing and/or Physician’s assisting practices and under the oversight of the Supervising Provider and Medical Director, and within organizational guidelines. Coordinates assessment, treatment and management of patients through consultation with the supervising physician and other care providers to facilitate comprehensive patient care plans. Conducts labs, referrals and appropriate assessments of patients including history taking and physical examination consistent with scope of practice department protocol. Diagnoses or treats acute health care problems; illnesses, infections and injures. Analyzes and interprets patients’ histories, sym
• ptoms, physical findings or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses. Provides health care screenings for both preventative health and chronic conditions. Counsels and educates patients regarding reproductive health, preventative health, chronic conditions, disease prevention and pediatric health. Prescribes appropriate medications (dosage and route) utilizing best practices and under the direction of the staff physician. Detects and respond to adverse drug reactions, with special attention to vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant and lactating women and other adults. Orders, perform or interpret the results of diagnostic tests such as complete blood counts (CBCs), electrocardiograms (EKGs) and radiographs (x-rays). Provides comprehensive family planning services for men and women including initiation of oral, injectable and indwelling contraception, performs insertion of intrauterine devices, fits diaphragms, and allocates over the counter barrier methods as needed. Educates and counsels adolescents and adults in maturational changes, sexuality, contraception, pregnancy, abortion and family stress in the clinical setting and in groups as needed. Coordinates care with ancillary providers, clinics and hospitals. Assists with daily clinic activities including patient flow, triage (i. e., walk-ins and telephone contacts), patient emergencies, health records flow and laboratory/x-ray/consultation/referral services. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs. Documents in E. H. R. physical findings, formulates plan/prognosis based on patient's condition and follow-up with patient in an accurate, timely way. Establishes and maintains communication with other health care providers and departments to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness and to promote consistency and continuity of care. Compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations, as they pertain to position including; HIPAA, sexual harassment, scope of practice, OSHA, etc. Other duties as assigned. • Treatment Documentation Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Current NP or PA license with corresponding State Board of California Certified Family Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center Current active DEA registration or the ability to obtain upon hire Completion of certified Family Practice Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant program. Must successfully complete the provider credentialing process in accordance with National Accreditation requirements. Current Basic Life Support certification required Experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant in the area of primary care or a community clinic, or experience in assessing, diagnosing and treating a broad range of conditions, including medication management, under super
• vision of Provider Care and compassion in working with low income, indigent, and/or substance abusing individuals. Ability to chart visits comprehensively and complete E&M coding in compliance with medical coding standards. Experience with Nextgen or other electronic health record system.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an FQHC setting as a member of a multi-disciplinary team preferred. Knowledge of traditional, cultural and spiritual practices of the diverse AI/AN community, as well as ability to work with other racially, culturally, ethnically, and financially diverse populations.
