Job Description

The Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund), a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, seeks a Social Worker to provide comprehensive and clinically focused case management and support services to clients of The Schermerhorn to help them maximize their capacity for independent living. This primarily includes intensive case management/counseling for our adult clients, including older adults and those with chronic health and mental health diagnoses.

The Schermerhorn, located in downtown Brooklyn, is an affordable housing building comprised of 216 studio apartments, that houses low-income adults, many of whom work in the arts and entertainment industry as well as adults who are formerly homeless, HIV+ and/or living with mental health needs.

The Schermerhorn is conveniently located near shopping, public transportation, and many other community resources. It also has on-site social services that are provided by both Entertainment Community Fund and Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS).

Responsibilities

The Social Worker for The Schermerhorn will provide direct services to residents identified as having medical, mental health, substance abuse, housing and employment issues. These direct services include case management, short-term counseling, advocacy, crisis intervention, home visits, and providing information and referrals to external resources within the community to ensure stability, continuity of care, and independent living.

The Social Worker will also be responsible for completing assessments for their clients and assisting them in accessing and maintaining benefits and services both within the agency and within the community.

They will work collaboratively with our partner agencies, Breaking Ground and CUCS, to address housing related issues such as rental arrears, neighbor conflicts, and other issues that potentially impede a client’s’ housing stability.

The social worker will be responsible for timely, detailed, and accurate case notes and reporting.

The Social Worker will also have opportunities to develop and facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic recreation programs, seminars, and activities specific to the needs of the diverse resident population.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's in social work from an accredited School of Social Work and NY State Licensure
  • Minimum of two years post-MSW relevant experience
  • Strong assessment, case management, clinical, and communication skills
  • Flexible and adaptable in working off-site for client advocacy
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively, make ethical decisions, and problem solve when necessary
  • Highly organized and able to maintain objective, detailed, and punctual case notes and keep case files current
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and employ a person-centered, strengths-based approach to working with clients
  • Consistently convey a sense of empathy with clients and demonstrate solid clinical acumen

Additional Requirements

  • Social work experience in a housing environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of NYC housing law, tenants’ rights, and public benefits and community resources
  • Ability to work evenings on occasion

About This Position

This is a full-time salaried position based at The Schermerhorn in downtown Brooklyn. Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with licensure type and years of experience. The salary range for candidates who hold an MSW is between $69,000 - $73,422. The salary range for candidates who hold an LCSW is between $76,620 - $78,422. Internships, volunteer work and gaps in employment will not be counted towards years of experience.
