Job Description

  • Hospice Physician – Part-Time
  • Location: Tucson, AZ
  • Office: Arizona Tucson Hospice (ATH)
  • Job Type: Part-Time
  • Are you ready to make every moment matter?

BAYADA Hospice is seeking a compassionate and collaborative part-time Hospice Physician to join our Arizona Tucson Hospice team. Reporting to the Office Director, you will help patients and families receive expert medical care, comfort, and support during one of life’s most important journeys.

You will partner with an interdisciplinary hospice team to provide thoughtful clinical guidance, promote comfort and dignity, and ensure each patient’s plan of care reflects their goals, needs, and wishes.

The part-time schedule includes participation in an every-other-week interdisciplinary group meeting and an on-call rotation with the hospice physician team. This is an opportunity to practice medicine with purpose while helping people remain where they feel safest—in their homes and communities.

What You’ll Do

Serve as a physician resource to hospice patients, families, attending physicians, and members of the interdisciplinary group.

Participate actively in the every-other-week interdisciplinary group meeting, comprehensive assessments, and ongoing updates to each patient’s plan of care.

Review clinical information for hospice admissions and recertifications; complete Certifications of Terminal Illness (CTIs) for new patients and document terminal illness eligibility in accordance with applicable Medicare hospice requirements.

Oversee and coordinate medical care related to the terminal illness, including pain and symptom management.

Review medications, treatments, and services to help ensure care is medically appropriate, effective, and aligned with the patient’s goals.

Collaborate with attending physicians and hospice clinicians to address clinical, ethical, and end-of-life care concerns.

Serve as the attending physician when a hospice patient does not have an attending physician or when the attending physician is unavailable, as needed.

  • Provide hospice and palliative care consultations and patient visits when requested.
  • Participate in family meetings, provide education, and compassionate communication related to end-of-life care.
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation, certifications, recertifications, orders, and other required records.

Participate in the on-call rotation with the hospice physician team and respond to client orders related to symptom management, medical emergencies, and patient referrals as scheduled.

Support quality assessment and performance improvement initiatives, clinical education, and evidence-informed hospice practices.

Build positive relationships with community physicians and healthcare partners through education about hospice services and clinical practices.

Demonstrate and communicate the core values of BAYADA and The BAYADA Way: compassion, excellence, and reliability.

What You’ll Need

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in Arizona, with the ability to provide proof of licensure.
  • Current, unrestricted DEA registration and prescribing authority, as applicable.
  • Licensed physician with at least two years of recent, verifiable clinical experience.

Hospice experience is preferred but not required; experience in palliative care, home care, geriatrics, or a related practice is also valued.

Knowledge of professional medical standards, hospice regulations, Medicare requirements, and applicable state and federal laws.

  • Strong clinical judgment, interpersonal skills, and written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Collaborative leadership skills and the ability to serve as a trusted clinical resource.
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development.
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to complete timely electronic documentation.
  • Successful completion of required credentialing, background, and federal and state program exclusion checks.
