Job Description
The Pharmacist is responsible for the interpretation and dispensing of medication orders including the proper handling, usage, and storage of drugs in the pharmacy. This position maintains standards set by the department and translates policies and procedures into the daily operation of the pharmacy.
Responsible for acting as an information resource to patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy and drug related information and literature.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates physician orders for accuracy, appropriate dosing, drug-drug / drug-food / drug-disease state interactions, and therapeutic suitability; communicates with prescribers any issues or recommend alternative therapies as needed.
- Compounds, packages, and dispenses medications including sterile products, IV admixtures, chemotherapy, TPN, and non-commercial formulations according to established standards.
- Ensures accurate and up-to-date medication profiles; monitors drug therapy for correct dosing, duration, interactions, and overall clinical appropriateness.
- Adheres to legal and institutional requirements related to medication distribution, controlled substance management, documentation, and pharmaceutical practice.
- Serves as a resource for medication information; educates pharmacy staff, students, and other healthcare professionals; maintains ongoing professional development and required licensure.
- Performs medication reconciliation approvals, as well as other basic clinical functions including IV to enteral conversions, renal dosing adjustment, pharmacokinetic dosing, as well as other responsibilities as assigned.
- Supervises and verifies the work of supportive personnel; assumes charge pharmacist responsibilities during assigned shifts; assists with operational issues in the absence of pharmacy leadership.
- Maintains responsibility for intradepartmental communication at staff meetings and Inservice attendance; responsible for knowing content of departmental staff meetings minutes and memos and maintains a working knowledge of the pharmacy policy and procedure manual.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree Pharmacy Required or
- Doctorate Pharmacy Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Pharmacist Licensed State of Florida Upon Hire Required
