Department: Emergency Department Physician

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Denver Health is recruiting a full-time academic emergency physician to join our core clinical operations team with a primary focus on Clinical Informatics. Candidates must have fellowship training or equivalent experience and demonstrated accomplishment in Clinical Informatics.

The successful candidate will provide expertise in Clinical Informatics and help shape how informatics supports the department’s clinical and academic missions.

The role will partner with departmental and health system leaders to advance the use of technology, data, and emerging tools to improve patient care and clinical operations.

This position will be an active member of the Clinical Operations Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Associate Chair of Adult Clinical Operations and, ultimately, to the Chair of Emergency Medicine at Denver Health.

As a full-time academic faculty member at the sponsoring institution for the Denver Health/CU Anschutz Residency in Emergency Medicine, the role carries a significant emphasis on scholarship, teaching, and mentorship.

Faculty are also expected to contribute actively to the academic mission of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Faculty at Denver Health are expected to be highly motivated, collaborative academicians who contribute meaningfully to our mission of “Serving Our Patients and Leading Our Specialty.” Our recruitment process places a strong emphasis on teamwork, alignment with departmental values, and engagement across the clinical, educational, and scholarly missions of our department.

The emergency department (ED) at Denver Health includes a 44-bed adult ED with an additional 13-bed adult low-acuity zone, a 19-bed pediatric ED and urgent care, and a 23-bed CDU providing observation medicine.

With a combined annual census of more than 115,000 patients from highly diverse cultures and backgrounds, the ED at Denver Health is the second busiest in Colorado. The Ernest E Moore Shock Trauma Center at Denver Health is a Level 1 adult and Level 2 pediatric trauma referral center for the Rocky Mountain Region.

Additionally, the acuity managed by the adult ED is high, with a 25% admission rate. Staffing in the adult and pediatric EDs is provided by board-certified emergency physicians, emergency medicine residents and subspecialty fellows, and advanced practice providers.

Strong and highly collaborative relationships exist among physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, and consultative services.

Denver Health is a large urban health care center that is proud to serve as a primary Anchor Institution to the Denver metropolitan area and its diverse community.

Denver Health is a major academic affiliate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine (based at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus) and the home institution for the best-in-class Denver Health/CU Anschutz Residency in Emergency Medicine.

All faculty ultimately report to the Chair of Emergency Medicine at Denver Health, contribute to the missions of patient care, education, research, and professional development, and have meaningful responsibilities and faculty appointments in the School of Medicine’s academic Department of Emergency Medicine.

As an institution, Denver Health is a nationally recognized integrated health care system that includes a large safety-net acute-care hospital, an acclaimed Level 1 trauma center (Ernest E Moore Shock Trauma Center), a large network of community health centers, the city and county public health department (Denver Public Health), the sole city-wide advanced life support EMS agency (Denver Paramedics), and a regional poison center (Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center).

Denver Health is a profoundly mission-driven organization that has provided more than $3.3 billion in care for the uninsured in the last ten years.

Denver Health is a leader in performance and quality improvement and remains financially secure, in part due to its nationally recognized implementation of lean principles in health care.

Denver Health and the Department of Emergency Medicine are highly committed to our community and workforce.

This position is a key member of our department and is expected to take an active role in our commitment to creating an environment for patients and staff where a richness of ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives is embraced.
