Adjunct CRNA Simulation & Clinical Education Faculty
Position Type: Fixed Term (Fixed Term)
About the Role
The Northern Kentucky University Nurse Anesthesia Program is seeking an experienced Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to support the education and professional development of nurse anesthesia students through didactic instruction, lecture-based teaching, simulation, and hands-on clinical skills training.
Working collaboratively with Nurse Anesthesia Program faculty, the CRNA educator will provide classroom instruction in areas of clinical expertise, facilitate simulation-based learning, and assist with skills laboratory experiences. The position will help students connect foundational and advanced anesthesia concepts with clinical practice through evidence-based instruction, case discussion, simulation, demonstration, and guided practice.
The CRNA educator will contribute to a student-centered learning environment that promotes clinical reasoning, critical thinking, technical proficiency, professionalism, and progressive development toward safe and competent nurse anesthesia practice. This role provides an opportunity for a practicing CRNA to bring current, real-world anesthesia experience into both the classroom and simulation environment.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Current certification/recertification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) through the NBCRNA
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license
- Current license/privilege to practice as an APRN/CRNA in accordance with applicable state law
- Graduate degree in nurse anesthesia; master's or doctoral preparation preferred/required as appropriate for faculty appointment
- Current clinical practice and demonstrated clinical competency
- Commitment to maintaining professional development and evidence-based anesthesia practice
- Ability to effectively teach, demonstrate clinical skills, provide feedback, and serve as a professional role model
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
- Ability to promote critical thinking, clinical judgment, student independence, and progressive development

Responsibilities/Duties
The CRNA educator will collaborate with NKU Nurse Anesthesia Program faculty to provide simulation, skills laboratory, and other educational experiences for nurse anesthesia students. Responsibilities may include:
The CRNA educator will collaborate with Nurse Anesthesia Program faculty to provide didactic, simulation-based, and experiential instruction throughout the nurse anesthesia curriculum. Responsibilities may include:
Prepare and deliver classroom lectures and presentations on anesthesia-related topics within the CRNA's areas of clinical expertise.
Translate current clinical practice and evidence-based anesthesia principles into meaningful, clinically relevant classroom instruction.
Facilitate case-based discussions, clinical correlation activities, and other interactive learning experiences that help students integrate didactic knowledge with anesthesia practice.
Facilitate and assist with high-fidelity simulation, task training, skills laboratories, workshops, and other experiential learning activities.
Teach and demonstrate anesthesia-related technical and psychomotor skills, including airway management, anesthesia equipment, patient assessment, anesthetic planning, monitoring, and other skills appropriate to the student's level of progression.
- Participate in simulation prebriefing, scenario facilitation, debriefing, and student evaluation.
- Create an educational environment that encourages active learning, inquiry, clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Demonstrate expert anesthesia practice and serve as a professional role model for students.
Provide timely and constructive feedback regarding student knowledge, clinical reasoning, technical performance, communication, and professionalism.
Assist program faculty with the development, implementation, and evaluation of lectures, simulation scenarios, skills-training activities, and other instructional materials.
Participate in student assessment and remediation activities as requested by program faculty.
Incorporate current evidence, professional standards, and contemporary anesthesia practice into teaching activities.
Collaborate with program faculty to ensure educational activities support course objectives, student learning outcomes, and progressive development throughout the curriculum.
Assist with preparation, organization, and appropriate use of simulation equipment and learning spaces.
Maintain professional and ethical standards and comply with applicable NKU, College of Health and Human Services, School of Nursing, and Nurse Anesthesia Program policies.
