Dental Hygienist

Description

SUMMARY: The Dental Hygienist is responsible for the preventative aspect of the dental department regarding educational, clinical and follow-up activities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties are subject to accommodation in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Reviews and updates medical and dental history during periodic visits.

Conducts and documents blood pressures on all patients as needed.

Performs all preventative activities according to the State’s Dental Practice Act. (i. e., dental prophylaxis, topical fluorides, and sealants to appropriate patients.)

• Take necessary radiographs as directed.
• Provides patient education to increase awareness regarding nutrition and home maintenance.
• Controls the inventory of patient educational materials and audits and orders hygiene supplies.
• Maintains and evaluates an active recall system.
• Confirms hygiene appointments for the following day as time permits.
• Backs up the Dental Assistant and Receptionist when time permits.

Performs Triage Emergencies, Dosimetry Maintenance and other duties as assigned by the Dental Operations Director.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• QUALIFICATIONS:
• Connecticut State Registered Dental Hygienist license required.
• Two years’ experience; bilingual preferred.
• CPR/BLS Certified
• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Education and/or Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of dental hygiene.
