Job Description

Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Schedule: this is a full-time role that will work 3, 12-hour shifts/week. This is a night shift position that works from 6:45 pm to 7:15 am and will also work every other weekend.

How you’ll contribute

A Respiratory Therapist (RRT) who excels in this role:

  • Examines patients with breathing-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing.
  • Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient.
  • Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patients to use medications.
  • Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
  • Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per care plan.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
  • Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance.
  • Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
  • Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders. Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment. Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.

What We’re Looking For

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy program and be licensed in the state of New Mexico as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).

Additional requirements include:

  • NBRC RRT registry
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) required with ACLS, PALS and NRP certifications preferred.

Key Responsibilities

The Respiratory Therapist examines patients with breathing conditions, conducts diagnostic tests, and collaborates with physicians to implement treatment plans. They also perform physiotherapy, monitor patient conditions, respond to medical emergencies, and maintain respiratory care equipment.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in a respiratory therapy program and possess a valid New Mexico Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license. Additionally, candidates are required to have NBRC RRT registry and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
