Inpatient PRN Pharmacist, Terre Haute, IN
Operating Hours: Monday - Friday; 7a-3p (no nights/weekends or Holidays)

JOB DESCRIPTION: PRN PHARMACIST
I. JOB SUMMARY: Responsible directing the overall operation of the hospital pharmacy
department under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy/PIC.
- Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care
provided to all groups of patients.
- Ensures compliance with all laws and governing agencies.
- Works closely with pharmacy, medical, and nursing staff to provide quality patient
care.
II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas
Directing Pharmacy Department operations and ensuring compliance with all
local, state, and federal regulations under the direction of the Director of
Pharmacy/PIC.
Monitors activities of the Pharmacy Department, taking appropriate action as
necessary to ensure efficient and effective operation and quality patient care.
Works closely with the nursing and medical staff and other clinical department
managers in addressing Pharmacy Department issues as they are related to the
services provided to all patients.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient
safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Directs the purchase and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals as needed
for patient care.
Oversees the storage and distribution of all pharmaceutical items in
departmental and patient care locations.
Performs clinical monitoring according to clinical guidelines and treatment
standards for the Pharmacy Department in accordance with hospital policies,
The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, and federal and state regulations.
Performs all aspects of pharmacy management and pharmacist duties, as
required.
Works in the community to bring positive attention to the effective patient care
that the hospital provides.
Maintains a system of records in accordance with hospital policy for recording
patient charges as well as maintaining adequate controls over requisitioning and
dispensing of pharmaceuticals.
JOB DESCRIPTION: STAFF/PRN PHARMACIST
Maintains formularies and other medication-related documents, information
resources and references for preparations.
Responsible for reporting quality related events that occur according to IPS and
hospital policy.
Reads, analyzes, and interprets pharmacy-related journals in order to remain
current on standards of pharmacy care.
Responds to common inquiries or complaints from facility partners, regulatory
agencies, or members of the hospital staff.
Reviews and summarizes articles and studies to effectively present information
and answer questions from medical and nursing staff.
2. Professional Requirements
Completes annual continuing education and competency requirements.
Always maintains and ensures patient confidentiality.
Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state and federal regulations and
TJC standards.
Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with
administration, physicians, and staff in all departments.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Supervise pharmacy technicians, where applicable.
Ensures compliance with all company and facility policies and procedures.
Follows administrative directives and attends interactive departmental meetings
and discussions.
Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the company and the hospital, as
well as the focus statement of the department.
3. Regulatory Requirements
Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree, or equivalent.
Graduate from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy or certified by the
Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC).
Current Pharmacist certification or licensure in the state of practice.
4. Preferred Certifications
Current certification in BLS (Basic Life Support) or CPR (Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation).
Bloodborne Pathogen Training.

5. Language Skills
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Strong written and verbal skills.
6. Skills
Hospital experience preferred.
Intermediate computer knowledge: Office 365.
Automated pharmacy systems: Automated Dispensing Software, Analytics
Reporting, Order Entry Software.
Self-directed, motivated, and capable of supervising pharmacy support
personnel.
