Summary

The Mental Health Counselor provides direct, evidence-based mental health counseling and therapy to New Hampshire National Guard Service Members and their Families. This position supports emotional and behavioral health readiness through individual, couples, family, and limited child/adolescent counseling focused on stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, deployment, reintegration, and military lifestyle transitions.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

Provide individual, couples, family, and limited child/adolescent counseling services.

Provide evidence-based treatment for stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, and other behavioral health needs.

Support military Families with deployment, reintegration, communication, and military lifestyle transitions.

Provide counseling to children and adolescents experiencing stressors related to a parent’s deployment or military service.

• Manage an active clinical caseload and prioritize direct, in-house clinical care.
• Assess client needs and provide appropriate treatment, follow-up, and documentation.

Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records in accordance with applicable privacy and professional requirements.

Identify circumstances requiring additional clinical resources and coordinate recommendations for external referrals in accordance with program requirements.

• Collaborate with other readiness professionals to support holistic Service Member and Family wellness.
• Provide outreach, education, and behavioral health programming as appropriate.
• Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to applicable ethical, legal, and clinical standards.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge

• Evidence-based mental health counseling and therapeutic techniques.
• Individual, couples, family, and youth counseling.
• Knowledge of military-related stressors, deployment, reintegration, and Family dynamics.
• Assessment, treatment planning, documentation, and clinical case management.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and crisis-management skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

Minimum Qualifications

Current, active, and unrestricted New Hampshire license as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Psychologist.

Minimum of two (2) years of professional clinical counseling or behavioral health experience.

Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and successfully complete the required background investigation and security screening.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related field.
