Job Description

Medical Director, Occupational Medicine for Centra HealthWorks

We are seeking a natural leader to help build HealthWorks growing employer-based healthcare service line as Medical Director.

The Healthworks Medical Director, in collaboration with the Operational Director, functions as a Dyad Leader to provide clinical and operational guidance and leadership. Key roles and responsibilities include the delivery of high-quality clinical care across all Healthworks service lines, which include:

  • Occupational Medicine and Wellness Services to Area Business and Industry
  • Centra’s Employee Health Hospital Based Clinics
  • HealthWorks Physical Therapy and Industrial Rehabilitation
  • Employee Assistance Programs
  • Medical oversite of Onsite Employer Clinics

Centra Medical Group (CMG) is a comprehensive network of nearly 600 employed providers within Centra Health. Centra Health services a population of 600,000 community members with 70 different outpatient and specialty practices.

Centra offers primary care and specialty services across Central and Southern Virginia—from Lynchburg to Danville, Farmville, Moneta, and Bedford. CMG includes family practices, specialists, and surgeons in fields such as cardiology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, urology, and more.

CMG is also home to the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency, a training program for future family physicians, many of whom hold academic appointments with institutions like UVA, VCU, VCOM, and Liberty University.

Responsibilities

Administratively

  • Supports, leads and models the vision, mission and values of Centra and HealthWorks
  • Provides strategic system leadership for the HealthWorks service line
  • May oversee and provide evidence-based process improvement recommendations to ensure safe high-quality care and support prevention efforts
  • Participates in the development of policies and guidelines meet occupational health goals.
  • Participates in the Client/Employer relationship/marketing processes

Clinically

  • Provides oversight for PAs and NPs.

Directly Participates in Patient Care and Supervision

  • Occupational Medicine pre-employment, medical surveillance, qualification and exposure evaluations, audiometric reviews, return to work and fitness for duty visits, DOT examinations and Medical Review Officer duties.
  • Workers’ compensation evaluations for work related illness and injuries, hazard evaluations, and medical oversight for Abbott Industry and Sweet Briar Student Health Clinic and Athletic Trainer.
  • Nearsight Clinic Visits to provide episodic care to City Workers

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • MD/DO
  • Board Certified/Eligible in Occupational Medicine or Emergency, Family, or Internal Medicine with experience in Occupational Medicine and Employee Health
  • Medical Review Officer (MRO) Certification
  • FMCSA DOT Medical Examiner Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of workers' compensation, DOT, OSHA and other applicable legislative regulations, Fitness for Duty and Independent medical Evaluations, employee health and exposure management.
