It is an exciting time at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus as we continue to expand clinical support for our surgical patients and service lines. We are recruiting a highly motivated pharmacist to provide patient care in both central operations and surgical areas, including orthopedics/general surgery, colorectal surgery, and trauma stepdown/floor units.

In this decentralized surgical role, daily responsibilities include coverage of assigned units and service lines, coordination of pharmaceutical care, therapeutic drug monitoring, identification and mitigation of medication safety issues, development of cost-effective pharmacotherapy plans, and medication reconciliation. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals is essential to delivering high-quality patient care.

Additional responsibilities may include precepting APPE students and pharmacy residents, participating in projects and research that support the department’s mission, and representing pharmacy on appropriate committees.

A caregiver in this position works days/evenings from 7:00am to 3:30pm or 1:00pm to 9:30pm. Further requirements include every 8th weekend and 1 holiday per year. On-call requirements occur 4-6 times per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will

• Provide safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services.
• Verify medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.
• Document services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
• Actively contribute to medication safety initiatives.
• Ensure all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards.

Directs staff appropriately to provide safe and efficient care and maintain professional working relationships with all caregivers.

• Educate and train students, residents, other caregivers and/or patients.
• Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
• PharmD or Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy

Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire

For individuals required to administer immunizations, Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are required.

For individuals required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events, current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA), or certification obtained within one (1) year of hire, is required

• Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
• Board Certification

Completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience preferred.

Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area

Physical Requirements

Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time.

Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

• Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting.
• Must have normal or corrected vision.
• Must have ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person
