Pediatric Critical Care Physician

East Tennessee State University (ETSU), Department of Pediatrics, in collaboration with the Medical Education Assistance Corporation (MEAC), Niswonger Children’s Hospital, and Ballad Health, is seeking a Pediatric Critical Care Physician to join our expanding division.

This position offers opportunities to contribute across clinical care, medical education, and scholarly research within a collaborative academic and healthcare environment. Candidates will play an integral role in providing high-quality pediatric critical care while supporting the educational mission of ETSU and the ongoing growth of the division. Position is contingent upon external funding.

Other Considerations for This Position

• Providing clinical care for the 10-bed PICU.
• Actively participating in the pediatric ground and air transports for the region as we move toward a comprehensive designated center and expanding the service for pediatric sedations outside the operating room.
• As this Tennessee facility is designated as a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center with Special Pediatric Expertise, the pediatric intensivist will be an active participant with the pediatric trauma team.

Educational Opportunities Include

• Opportunity to teach the first and second-year medical students in the basic science program.
• Work with the third-year students during the general pediatric clerkship/PICU subspecialty rotation.
• Instruct the 4th year students taking the pediatric ICU Selective/Elective.
• Supervise the pediatric residents on the three required PICU rotations.
• Formal lectures will be given to the pediatric residents, community and emergency room physicians, and at local/regional conferences.
• The pediatric critical care physician will be expected to participate in ongoing quality initiatives/quality assessments and will be encouraged to participate in research and other academic pursuits.

Required Qualifications

• MD/DO
• Completion of pediatric critical care fellowship at time of hire
• Must be BC/BE in pediatric critical care at time of hire
