N/A FIELD SITES N/A KITCHEN N/A WIC 100% CWR N/A FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NONE SCHEDULE: FULL-TIME OR Part-Time Revision date: 9/29/2026 GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: Provides nutritional counseling to High Risk WIC participants following Professional, State and Federal Requirements.

Provides in-service training for Program staff regarding nutrition. Follows all WIC Program Regulations and Agency policies to accomplish Program and Agency goals and objectives. Travels to clinic sites within Lake County, along with out of area conferences and training.

The Registered Dietitian shall complete the number of continuing education units required to maintain their professional registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Client Services (50%) Accurately determine applicant or participant eligibility for WIC services based on State WIC policies and procedures. Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition protocols for participant education by non-RD staff.

Collect and evaluate anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary data to determine nutrition and /or health risks. Assess need for and provide referrals and follow up to health care providers, public health nurses and other agencies as needed.

Assess need for, issue, and track medically indicated formula and foods according to State and local policies and procedures. Support medical nutrition therapy provided to the participant. Develop initial individual nutrition education plans for high-risk participants and determine appropriate follow-up.

Acts as a resource for other staff and conduct quality monitoring activities for appropriate and accurate nutrition assessment, counseling, and referrals. Responsible for the WIC Nutrition Assistant (WNA) training and certification process for staff.

Travels to satellite WIC clinics to provide full scope of WIC services to eligible Lake County residents. Supports the Agency Safety Program. Other duties as assigned within the scope of position classification.

Nutrition Education (20%) Conducts health, nutrition and breastfeeding contacts for prenatal and postpartum women, infants, and children. Assures that any locally developed nutrition education materials for participants contain accurate, reliable, science-based, culturally appropriate information.

Assists the Program Director develop, implement, and evaluate the annual WIC Nutrition Services Plan. Plans and implements nutrition education classes for groups of WIC participants. Attends various meetings, trainings, committees, and conferences related to program goals and objectives.

Other duties as assigned within the scope of position classification. Breastfeeding Education and Support (30%) Provides breastfeeding support, education, and counseling to WIC participants and families. Regularly works in a manner that protects, promotes, and supports breastfeeding.

Encourages breastfeeding as the norm for infant feeding. Oversees the development, staff training, delivery and evaluation of group and individual breastfeeding education, policies, and practices. Assists the WIC Lactation Coordinator with the breastfeeding promotion component of the annual WIC Nutrition Services Plan.

Provides individual breastfeeding consultations in person or on the telephone as appropriate Networks with other health professionals and community organizations to promote and support breastfeeding in the community. Conducts or arrange required breastfeeding training and updates for staff.

Other duties as assigned within the scope of position classification. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: Communicates with community organizations to promote healthy eating, ensure access to healthy food and provide healthy living activities for WIC participants. Participates in outreach activities.

Maintains a list of referral agency contacts. Attends staff meetings, State sponsored conferences and professional educational trainings as authorized. Prepares and presents reports as required, attends WRAD training for report development and data retrieval. Communicates with State Consultants as necessary.

Assists with the development of special projects. Monitor participant records according to LA developed Continuous Quality Improvement (QA/CQI) plan. Other duties as assigned within the scope of position classification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian eligible and prefer two years of experience in community nutrition including services to pregnant, breastfeeding, postpartum women and children 0-5 years. Holds current membership in good standing with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Bilingual, bi-literate, English/Spanish, English/Punjabi, English/Hmong, and/or other language ability based on program needs preferred.

(Bilingual preferred English/Spanish) State regulations require a physical examination, current tuberculosis test, and verified fingerprint and criminal records clearance before beginning work.

Possession of a valid drivers' license; current personal vehicle insurance or safe driving record. sufficient to ensure insurability through Agency policy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of participants, employees of the organization, and the general public. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to understand and use a variety of computer applications and appropriate software, spreadsheets and word processing, such as Microsoft Office and workplace electronic technology, including access, networking, and e-mail.

Advanced personal computer skills including ability to design and develop data bases; create computerized presentation/training materials; and use advanced graphics design applications is desired.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, and solve problems effectively and efficiently. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in various forms and deal with several abstract and concrete variables where on limited standardization exists.
