Job Description

Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinician

West Warwick

  • Integrated Primary Care

About the Role

Are you a clinician who’s drawn to working with kids and families — and wants to do it embedded in primary care, not isolated from the medical team? Thundermist Health Center is looking for a Pediatric Behavioral Health Clinician at our West Warwick location.

You’ll provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive behavioral health services to children and adolescents as part of the integrated care team, with the ability to see adult patients as needed.

You’ll respond to warm hand-offs from medical providers, conduct screenings, deliver individual, group, and family therapy, and partner with psychiatric prescribers — all within a patient-centered medical home serving families from West Warwick and surrounding Kent County communities.

What You’ll Do

Clinical Assessment & Treatment

Provide trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and families

Respond to warm hand-offs from medical providers for same-day behavioral health consultations, brief interventions, and triage

Conduct brief screenings to evaluate behavioral health needs of children, adolescents, and families

Deliver individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based approaches (TF-CBT, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing)

Assess clinical emergencies including suicide risk and risk of harm to others; determine appropriate levels of care

Provide consultation to medical providers on behavioral health management and support integrated treatment plans

Partner with psychiatric prescribers (PMHNPs/psychiatrists) on patients requiring medication management alongside therapy

Provide behavioral health services to adult patients as needed within scope and caseload capacity

Collaboration & Community

  • Collaborate with providers, agencies, schools, and other individuals in each patient’s network of care
  • Communicate with local community agencies, Kent County schools, and family support organizations as needed
  • Participate in the Behavioral Health on-call schedule
  • Provide referrals for more intensive services where appropriate

Documentation & Compliance

Complete same-day documentation in the EHR (eClinicalWorks) including screenings, progress notes, treatment plans, and insurance documentation

Ensure compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 (SUD confidentiality), mandated reporting requirements, and HRSA/FQHC regulations

Support HRSA UDS reporting for behavioral health measures (depression screening, SBIRT, pediatric screening)

What We’re Looking For

You’re a clinician who can connect with a seven-year-old, support a worried parent, consult with a pediatrician, and document a crisis assessment — all in the same afternoon. You bring developmental expertise, clinical skill, and genuine warmth to every encounter.

Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field

Rhode Island licensure as LCSW, LICSW, LMHC, LMHC-A, or LMFT (comparable out-of-state licenses considered with ability to obtain RI licensure)

Minimum 2 years of clinical experience with demonstrated experience working with children, adolescents, and families

  • Working knowledge of DSM-5-TR/ICD-10, psychotherapy methodologies, and evidence-based treatment planning
  • Demonstrated ability to assess clinical emergencies and determine appropriate levels of care
  • Experience working with diverse populations

Preferred

LICSW Licensure in Rhode Island Strongly Preferred

  • Prior experience in an FQHC, community health center, or safety-net pediatric behavioral health setting
  • Experience with integrated behavioral health / PCBH model including warm hand-offs in pediatric primary care
  • Training in trauma-informed care, TF-CBT, SBIRT, and evidence-based pediatric/adolescent interventions
  • Experience with early childhood mental health, perinatal mental health, or school-based behavioral health
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English or Portuguese/English) strongly preferred for the Kent County communities served

Schedule & Location

Full-time (40 hours/week), benefit-eligible, based on-site at Thundermist’s West Warwick location. Schedule includes mornings, afternoons, and evenings — with a larger distribution of afternoon and evening hours to match the pediatric and adolescent population served. Some schedule flexibility is available. Participation in the Behavioral Health on-call schedule is required. Occasional travel to off-site meetings and other Thundermist sites as needed.
