Job Description

The Midland Division Salvation Army Midtown Service and Treatment Center is
looking for someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of families who
are dealing with substance abuse.  We are seeking a candidate to fill the role
of Family Therapist at our Midtown Service and Treatment Center. 

This is a full-time, salaried position with an excellent benefits' package. 
Starting pay is $60,000 per year.

Job Objective

This position is expected to advance and support the Mission of The Salvation
Army.  Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, the Family
Therapist will proactively provide planned, face-to-face, goal-oriented
therapeutic interactions as a qualified individual with the clients and one or
more members of the client's family to resolve and address the family system's
dysfunction as it relates to the client's substance use disorder in accordance
with the client's rehabilitation plan. May also provide individual counseling
for the family/support system of clients to facilitate the development of a
healthy support system. Responsibilities include assessment, intervention,
treatment planning, education, counseling and referrals for clients and their
families. This position will provide individual, group and family counseling.
The position will also provide prevention, education, and training services.   
Position is expected to comply with and meet The Salvation Army, Federal, State
and Local policies, and standards. 

Essential Functions

* Conduct family/ support system assessments including psycho-social, of
admitted clients to determine client’s need of family, mental health and or
trauma treatment and make referrals for on-going psychiatric treatment as
appropriate.
* Provide mental health diagnoses as appropriate after assessment of clients.
* Develop, monitor and update, individualized treatment plans for clients and
their families.
* Provide individual, group and family counseling sessions to facilitate
achievement of clients’ treatment goals.
* Assist Integrated Treatment Team in recognizing and treating mental health,
trauma, and psycho-social problems.
* Provide oversight to the Salvation Army “Recover We” program by providing
family education, training Family Peer Support Specialist, and assigning
Family Peer Support to family members as appropriate.
* Track all program statistics on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis as
required by grants or contracts.
* Maintain treatment attendance records and pre-test, post-test and surveys of
clients served.
* Conduct client home visit as a part of outreach team in an effort to
re-engage client or assess for safety in home environment.
* Provide prevention services by regularly educating staff and clients on,
healthy support systems, trauma, co-dependency, communication and other
relationship
* Maintain community outreach by networking with community organizations
related to family support and crisis intervention such as BHR, NCDA, NAMI,
etc.
* May provide clinical supervision to practicum/intern students, counselors,
associate counselors, case managers or treatment/detox aides seeking
substance abuse credentialing.
* Participate in regular staff meetings and trainings.
* May require schedule flexibility, weekend coverage, and evening coverage to
meet the needs of the clients
* Maintain client files, fill out all pertinent forms, share pertinent
information with key staff, keep ongoing case notes of client’s progress and
maintain case record in accordance with agency standards.
* Work closely with client’s primary counselor and case manager to facilitate
client’s recovery.
* Become involved in professional and community organizations when possible.
* Provide regular, scheduled “on-call” service, for crisis intervention.
* Maintain statistical data for agency reporting.
* Monthly productivity and billing requirements
* Adhere to professional standards of practice. Appropriately represent The
Salvation Army in the community and be responsible to and be supervised by
the Administrator and Clinical Supervisor.
* Maintain confidentiality, practice Salvation Army code of ethics and comply
with Salvation Army Safe From Harm guidelines.
* Maintain positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner
that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors.
This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of
conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors
and clients; respect of others’ property and person; and professional and
appropriate communication to and about clients, co-workers and supervisors.  

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in counseling, social work, human services, or related field
with one year of related work experience in family therapy. Experience with
mental health and/or addiction counseling preferred.  Combination of education
and experience will be considered.  LPC or LCSW required with specialized
education in family therapy.  Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) and
Substance Abuse Supervision credential are preferred. If not certified obtaining
the substance abuse certification after employment is preferred. Must of have at
least two years of sobriety if in recovery.  Must have an outgoing personality
with good communication skills, ability to work in a team setting and an ability
to work with difficult individuals.  Strong leadership style and good
organizational skills required.  Knowledge of The Salvation Army and government,
state and community resources is helpful.  Must be computer literate and able to
utilize computer for documentation of work.  CPR/First Aid certification
required.  Must be a team player, a self-starter, able to handle several
projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision.  Must
demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. 
Requires a high level of confidentiality.  Must have a valid drivers’ license
and pass TSA MVR check. 

Physical and Working Conditions

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office
environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc. Most work will
be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. May require some travel to
client homes for outreach services.
