Part-Time Psychiatrist - Contracted

The Fond du Lac County Department of Human Services is seeking an independent, contracted Psychiatrist—not a county employee—to provide outpatient behavioral health services.

Operating in Wisconsin, the practitioner will deliver psychiatric evaluations, ongoing treatment, risk assessments, and medication management (requiring visits at least every six months).

Key responsibilities include managing prescriptions via the state's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP), ordering and reviewing necessary lab work (such as Clozapine or Lithium monitoring), leading treatment planning, and supervising professional staff in compliance with state codes (Wis. Admin.

Code DHS 36 and DHS 75). The clinician will also actively participate in Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) meetings and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, guardians, and external primary care providers to ensure continuous care and safety.

Administratively, the position requires strict adherence to legal, regulatory, and county standards regarding documentation, scheduling, and privacy.

Clinicians must record all clinical contacts and medication updates in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) within three business days, secure informed consent (Wis. Admin. Code DHS 94), and comply with strict HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and state confidentiality laws.

The role demands prompt availability—responding to phone calls within 24 hours and pages within minutes—along with planned coverage arrangements for absences.

Compensation aligns with fixed contracted hours, and either party may terminate the agreement with a 30-day written notice, during which the provider must assist in consumer transition, documentation completion, and the secure return or destruction of Protected Health Information (PHI).

The contracted Psychiatrist will perform clinical evaluations, maintain legal and organizational documentation, and provide court testimony for clients under court-ordered treatment.

Key duties include managing commitment extensions, medication orders, and guardianship assessments while collaborating with legal and treatment teams.
