Purpose

The Medical Director provides medical and scientific leadership for late-stage dermatology and respiratory clinical development. The role leads assigned studies and contributes to program strategy, with accountability for rigorous trial design, participant safety, medical oversight, data interpretation, and high-quality clinical and regulatory deliverables across immune-mediated respiratory, dermatologic, and allergic diseases.

You Will Be Responsible For

Lead the design, execution, analysis, and reporting of Phase 2 and Phase 3 respiratory, allergy, or dermatology trials, aligned with clinical development strategy, Good Clinical Practice, and global regulatory requirements.

Serve as medical lead for assigned studies, including eligibility guidance, medical monitoring, safety review, protocol deviation assessment, data review, and ongoing benefit-risk evaluation.

Lead cross-functional study teams and partner closely with clinical scientists and matrix stakeholders to help drive timely decisions, risk mitigation, and delivery of study milestones from study concept and start-up through database lock, reporting, disclosure, and close-out.

Develop and review clinical documents, including study concepts, protocols, case report forms, operational and analytic plans, investigator brochures, statistical analysis inputs, clinical study reports, publications, and other scientific communications.

Contribute medical content to regulatory submissions, briefing packages, health authority responses, labeling proposals, and regulatory interactions, including marketing application activities when applicable.

Interpret emerging clinical, translational, and competitive evidence and translate it into actionable development recommendations.

Build credible relationships with investigators, external experts, patient organizations, development partners, and health authorities, and represent J&J Innovative Medicine and the Immunology TA with professionalism and integrity both internally and externally.

Support disease- and pathway-area strategy, including indication and target prioritization, future treatment paradigms, precision medicine, patient stratification, and novel outcome measures for clinical trials, practice, or labeling.

Support assessment and due diligence of new mechanisms, modalities, and external opportunities relevant to respiratory medicine, allergy, dermatology, and immune-mediated inflammatory disease.

Mentor clinical team members and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, innovative, and high-accountability culture.

Qualifications / Requirements

MD or equivalent medical degree is required.

Clinical expertise in pulmonology, allergy, asthma, and immunology, or a closely related discipline is strongly preferred, with relevant board certification or board eligibility preferred.

Three or more years of relevant clinical development or clinical research experience, with pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience strongly preferred.

Experience leading or materially contributing to interventional clinical trials, including protocol development, medical monitoring, safety and data review, and study reporting, is required.

Experience with respiratory airway or allergic disease trials e. g. asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) are preferred.

Late-stage development experience and experience contributing to global regulatory interactions or submissions are preferred.

Strong clinical judgment and current knowledge of immunology, relevant disease biology and clinical practice in respiratory medicine and allergy, clinical trial methodology, benefit-risk assessment, and Good Clinical Practice.

  • Ability to analyze complex data, identify material risks, and communicate a clear recommendation.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness leading global, cross-functional, and matrixed teams, with the ability to collaborate, influence, and maintain shared accountability.
  • Clear scientific writing, presentation, external engagement, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, innovation, and a strong commitment to addressing unmet patient needs.
  • Comfort using artificial intelligence, digital tools, and emerging technologies responsibly to improve productivity, strengthen scientific analysis, and support high-quality clinical development deliverables.
  • Ability to travel ~10-20% domestically and internationally as business needs require.

  • $199,000.00 - $343,850.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

  • Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
  • Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
  • Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
