Job Description
About the Role
Mixlab, the fast-growing veterinary compounding pharmacy, is hiring a Care/Compounding Pharmacist who is equally at home on the phone with a veterinarian and at the compounding bench. We are looking for someone who is obsessed with quality, passionate about personalized care for pets and their people, and driven to #MakeItHappen for our furry (and scaly!) friends no matter what.
This is a hybrid role. You will split your time between our Care team, supporting veterinarians and pet parents remotely, and one of our compounding labs, where you will compound, verify, and supervise in person. You will help make Mixlab a 100% dependable resource for customers and veterinarians alike, and you will be a bridge between the clinical questions customers ask and the lab that answers them
What You'll Do
Time split: Approximately 40% Care/Remote and 60% Lab, adjusted to business needs
Location and Schedule
You will work in person at your home lab an average of 3 days per week. Remaining days are worked remotely on Care.
In-person days are scheduled in advance with your lab and Care leadership based on lab volume and coverage needs. Days may vary week to week.
- Additional in-person coverage may be requested during peak volume, staff absences, or inspections.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis is required.
Responsibilities
- Care (remote)
- Communicate professionally with veterinarians and clients to get pets their prescriptions on time:
Handle phone calls, emails, and text messages from veterinarians and practice staff: answer questions, take new prescriptions, and provide order status updates
Receive prescriptions by phone or electronically and enter orders into our proprietary workflow system with extreme attention to detail
- Contact veterinary practices when additional information, clarification, or authorization is needed
- Counsel clients on medications, administration, and instructions
- Monitor our CRM and respond to prescriber and client requests within service level targets
Explain Mixlab's policies, procedures, and values, and help prospective customers understand why vets and pet parents choose Mixlab
Process payment information and schedule deliveries based on Mixlab's delivery schedule and customer preference
Compounding (in person)
Compound and verify high-quality medications in compliance with SOPs and regulatory requirements:
Follow All Applicable Standard Operating Procedures
Perform nonsterile compounding, which may include capsules, oral liquids, topicals, otic preparations, and medicated treats.
Perform compounding, including weighing and measuring of all medications, and consistently meet standards for accuracy and potency
- Supervise pharmacy technicians who assist with compounding, packaging, and labeling
- Perform final checks on compounded medications in the lab and validate prescription orders for correctness in main validation, including shipping method and packing
- Enforce robust quality assurance processes among technician staff
Across Both
Serve as a liaison between Care and the lab: update prescription orders based on lab capabilities, resolve formulation questions, and close the loop with veterinarians
Work closely with lab, supply chain, logistics, and Care teams so orders are accurately scheduled and delivered on time
- Answer workflow and pharmacy questions and guide technicians and pharmacy associates in daily tasks
- Provide subject matter expertise to internal teams on processing, compounding, clinical solutions, and workflows
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and uphold Mixlab values
- Communicate effectively with your supervisor and own corrective action from 1:1 feedback
About You
Required

- Willingness to obtain additional state licenses within [6] months of hire, as needed for Care coverage

- Impeccable attention to detail and very high standards for accuracy and quality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to stay calm, empathetic, and supportive in difficult conversations
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly to changing software and platforms

- Scrappy, resourceful, and strong sense of ownership
- All-hands-on-deck attitude; you remain calm and excel under pressure
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats and switching between phone, computer, and bench
- You LOVE PETS and their people!
