Behavioral Health Therapist

Position Information

Job Title: Behavioral Health Therapist Reports To: Regional Manager Work Area: Outpatient Office Sign-On Bonus: Available for eligible candidates

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Therapist, under the direction of the Regional Manager, provides comprehensive behavioral health services utilizing specialized clinical knowledge and skills in counseling, diagnostic interviewing, assessment, and treatment planning.

The Therapist provides individual, group, and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults while supporting each client’s treatment goals and overall well-being. The Therapist works collaboratively with clients, families, providers, and members of the interdisciplinary care team to ensure quality, person-centered services.

Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure – Category I

This position does not involve routine occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious body fluids. Job duties primarily consist of therapeutic counseling and related clinical services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group, strengths-based therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families.
  • Establish clear treatment goals and strategies that support the welfare and progress of each client.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in accordance with OMHAS and CARF person- and family-centered standards.
  • Review and monitor treatment services and activities and document client progress appropriately.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and comprehensive clinical documentation of services provided and client progress.
  • Collaborate with clients, families, physicians, nurse practitioners, case managers, referral sources, and ancillary agencies as appropriate.
  • Provide referrals to psychiatry, nurse practitioners, support groups, community resources, mental health professionals, and other appropriate agencies.
  • Participate in care conferences, case reviews, and other interdisciplinary meetings as required.
  • Identify and report suspected abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities in accordance with applicable state and federal laws and professional licensing requirements.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with referring providers and agencies, court systems, probation departments, foster care agencies, and school systems.
  • Respect and incorporate clients’ cultural diversity, religious beliefs, personal values, and traditions in the delivery of services and in alignment with Path Behavioral Healthcare’s mission.

Team Member Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively and professionally with all employees of Path Behavioral Healthcare while adhering to organizational policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and coworkers to promote transparent communication and support the implementation of organizational goals, objectives, and processes.
  • Maintain organized clinical practice and schedule, arrive on time and prepared to work, and remain available through the completion of assigned client care responsibilities.
  • Communicate anticipated time off appropriately and in a timely manner to minimize client rescheduling and disruption of services.
  • Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA requirements, confidentiality standards, billing and coding guidelines, and organizational policies.
  • Demonstrate a positive, professional demeanor and model the mission and values of Path Behavioral Healthcare in all interactions.

Licensure and Continuing Education

  • Must maintain an active, unrestricted Ohio LSW or LPC license.
  • Maintain professional licensure in good standing and comply with all applicable Ohio licensing requirements.
  • Complete required continuing education in accordance with the requirements of the applicable Ohio licensing board and organizational policies.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in social work or clinical counseling from an accredited university is preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree in social work may be considered for candidates who hold a valid LSW license.

Licensure

Candidates must possess one of the following Ohio licenses:

  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in an outpatient behavioral health setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong community connections and collaborative relationships with schools, court systems, probation departments, foster care agencies, community organizations, referral sources, and other clinical settings.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and community partners to coordinate services and support positive client outcomes.
  • Experience working across multiple clinical or community-based settings is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work effectively in a clinical environment and manage stressful situations.
  • Ability to work occasional irregular hours as required by client and organizational needs.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to view computer monitors and perform keyboarding and other computer-based tasks.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills, dexterity, gripping, and handling.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with clients, families, colleagues, healthcare providers, schools, court systems, and community partners.
  • Strong grammar, documentation, and writing skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with clients, families, colleagues, providers, and community partners in a compassionate, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective therapeutic and professional relationships.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong community partnerships that support client care and organizational goals.
  • Ability to represent Path Behavioral Healthcare positively and professionally in all interactions.

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated competency or ability to become proficient in the organization’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Ability to utilize telehealth/telemedicine platforms and other software applications required for the position.
  • Ability to accurately enter, access, update, and maintain client information in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.

Background Requirements

  • Successful completion of all required federal and state background checks.
  • Verification of education, professional licensure, employment history, and other credentials as required by organizational policy.
  • Must meet all applicable employment and regulatory requirements.
