Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) is an accredited on-campus mental health facility dedicated to supporting the well-being of UT Austin students. CMHC offers a range of services, including assessment and referral, group and individual counseling, psychiatry and well-being services.

University Health Services (UHS) is an accredited on-campus medical facility dedicated to addressing the various healthcare needs of UT Austin students. UHS provides comprehensive services, including general medical care, public health education and specialty clinics.

The Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC) is the health promotion unit servicing University Health Services and Counseling and Mental Health Center. Purpose

CARE is a program of The Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC).

CMHC provides a full range of university mental health services including time-limited individual therapy, group therapy, program development and outreach, psychiatric assessment and treatment, integrated healthcare, urgent care, case management services.

Training and supervision are provided to psychology and social work interns, psychiatric residents, and psychology practicum students. The center's large, multidisciplinary staff includes psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, and licensed professional counselors.

Counselors in Academic Residence Program (CARE), is a unique program of the Counseling and Mental Health Center that embeds licensed mental health providers within all colleges and schools to provide mental health services for undergraduate and graduate/professional students. This position may provide mental health services on location in the College of Liberal Arts

CARE Coordinators Provide the Following

• Short-term individual counseling, case management and workshops for students.
• Consultation for staff and faculty regarding specific students of concern.
• Crisis response to student experiencing mental health crisis.
• Mental health trainings relevant to their CSU.
• Participation academic staff meetings and wellness programming.

Post-traumatic event consultation for faculty and staff and support for student groups, classes, and individuals.

Join our team of counselors as we provide short-term mental health services in an embedded counseling model. We collaborate with colleges/schools/programs across campus to decrease barriers for students struggling academically for mental health reasons. In addition to counseling, we provide workshops and consultation.

Responsibilities

As CARE Coordinator, you will use your expertise to support the students enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts at UT Austin. You will provide short-term individual and group counseling and outreach to students who seek services with our program.

Outreach activities may include presentations to student enrolled in your supported school(s), campus partners, supervision and training of social work / psychology interns and post-doctoral psychology practicum students, and development of training materials used within your area.

Provide short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and case management, to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a specific school or college at UT Austin.

Conduct initial assessments of students' presenting concerns. Conduct short-term counseling with students referred for service.

Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures.

Develop and implement a good blend of programmatic interventions which address the psycho-social mental health needs of students in the designated population or issue.

• Identify group assignment preferences and propose/develop new groups, as appropriate.
• Initiate advertising/recruitment and screening for group.
• Facilitate groups in accordance with service agreement.
• Demonstrate knowledge about group counseling and/or seek appropriate training.

Reviews client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered. Maintains current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and Counseling and Mental Health Center, CMHC, policies. Coordinates referrals between CMHC and university or community service providers.

Provide clinical consultation to others on an as-needed basis and seeks consultation when appropriate. Provide urgent care services as necessary to students.

Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations

Develops linkages with key contacts of the designated population for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions which generate substantial participation by students

Provide outreach and support to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a specific school or college at UT Austin and campus partners.

Develop and provide workshops on mental health concerns for students, faculty and staff within identified college, school or unit

Provide outreach to faculty/staff related to student mental health

Provides individual consultative support to faculty/staff on student mental health concerns

Other Required Activities

• Attend and participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned.
• Participates in the prevention and outreach team meetings by contributing new ideas, engaging in problem solving and seeking better ways to impact the mental health needs of students.
• Comply with all CMHC and UT policies, procedures, and guidelines.

May provide clinical training and supervision to social work and psychology interns, as well as pre-doctoral psychology practicum students.

• Provides individual supervision of interns, practicum students, or psychiatric residents.
• Provides individual supervision of group co-leaders.
• Supervises interns' supervision of practicum students.
• Co-leads training seminars.
• Offers and supervises preceptorships and apprenticeships for interns.
• Participates on training-related committees.
• Participates in training activities during the orientation period.
• Timely signature on clinical documentation and communication with supervisor of relevant issues.

May be assigned other relevant duties as applicable

Education Requirements

Master’s Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work or other degree which meets eligibility requirement in Texas for licensure.

Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or other degree acceptable to the Texas Board of Examiners of Psychology.

Required Qualifications

Licensed to practice independently as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Psychologist or the equivalent from another state; must be able to obtain licensure in Texas within one year if licensed in another state.

• Experience in high demand outpatient or inpatient mental health setting.
• Demonstrated experience in providing brief individual therapy, crisis intervention, group therapy, care coordination, and case management.
• Experience providing culturally competent treatment to a varied client population.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and communication skills.
• Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience in working with serious mental illness.
• At least 3 years of significant experience in providing short-term individual counseling and crisis intervention services to a culturally varied population.
• At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in high demand outpatient or inpatient mental health settings.
• At least 3 years of experience providing crisis intervention, triage, care coordination, and brief therapy to young adults and/or college students.
• Experience working in a college/university counseling center or community-based mental health setting.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with campus personnel, such as professionals in academic affairs and other student services providers or ability to work effectively with non-mental health professional colleagues.
