Position Description
A Respiratory Therapist is an allied health professional who, under the direction of the Medical Director and Manager of Respiratory Services, is responsible for providing Cardiopulmonary care in accordance with specific physician orders according to department policies and procedures to patients with cardiopulmonary disorders.
Responsible for routine calibration and quality control of blood gas analyzers. Performs diagnostic testing of the Cardiopulmonary system to aid the physician in diagnosis and treatment of heart & lung disorders. Performs EKG’s as needed. Utilizes analytical and problem solving abilities in caring for the patient.
Uses effective verbal and written skills to communicate with people on all levels. Maintains positive working relationships with patient, families, co-workers (inter and- intra-departmentally), and physicians. Independently manages multiple priorities.
Functions as a compassionate and non-judgmental patient care giver and advocate. Uses active listening and teaching skills in providing care and education to patients and families. Participates in Departmental Performance Improvement activities and monitoring as requested.

Key Responsibilities
The Respiratory Therapist provides cardiopulmonary care to patients with heart and lung disorders under physician direction. They are also responsible for diagnostic testing, blood gas analyzer calibration, and performing EKGs as needed.
Requirements
Candidates must be a graduate of a school of Respiratory Care and hold a current California R.C.P. license and NBRC R.R.T. certification. Additionally, current CPR, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications are required.
