Job Description

Telehealth Therapist | Remote | Licensed in California | Part-Time

Banyan Treatment Centers is seeking a part-time Telehealth Therapist to join a clinical team built for growth, delivering IOP-level care to individuals overcoming substance use and mental health disorders.

This role calls for a clinician who brings strong therapeutic skill and genuine care to every session, while thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative telehealth environment. You'll report to the Telehealth Clinical Director, with additional support from the Head of Telehealth — giving you clinical guidance and operational backing at every level.

Position Details

  • Schedule: 12 hours per week, minimum. Banyan runs both AM and PM program tracks, and scheduling varies depending on current business and caseload needs — candidates should expect this to be discussed and confirmed during the interview process. Current need typically leans toward PM coverage, though this is subject to change.
  • Compensation: $40 - $60 Hourly (Dependent on licensure, education and previous clinical experience).

About the Company

Banyan Treatment Centers is a leading national provider of intensive treatment for individuals facing substance use and mental health disorders. Backed by TPG's The Rise Funds, one of the nation's largest private equity investors, Banyan is rapidly expanding access to high-quality, compassionate care.

Why Join Banyan Treatment Centers?

As a Telehealth Therapist, You Will

  • Join a mission-driven, nationally recognized organization backed by the resources and infrastructure to deliver best-in-class care at scale.
  • Work within a leadership structure built for support — a Clinical Director and Head of Telehealth both invested in your success and the program's growth.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide integrated, patient-centered care.
  • Make a direct, lasting impact on patients during one of the most critical phases of their recovery.
  • Grow professionally within an organization that invests in continuous learning, mentorship, and career development.
  • Be supported in expanding your practice across state lines — we cover the cost of obtaining additional state licensure where there's a business need.

Benefits

Eligible full-time team members receive comprehensive benefits including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance and disability coverage
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Wellness incentives and employee assistance programs
  • Licensure reimbursement for additional state credentials, where applicable

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate group therapy sessions within an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), managing a caseload of patients across multiple weekly groups.
  • Provide individual therapy to support each patient's progress through treatment.
  • Lead family engagement sessions to build support systems and strengthen continuity of care.
  • Complete comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments to guide level-of-care decisions and treatment planning.
  • Develop and complete master treatment plans, continuously updating individualized, measurable goals in collaboration with patients and the care team.
  • Apply sound clinical judgment in crisis situations — risk assessment, de-escalation, and suicide risk evaluation — within an outpatient setting.
  • Maintain consistent communication with referral sources and families to support progress and continuity of care.
  • Coordinate step-down and discharge planning, connecting patients with resources for legal, financial, and vocational needs.
  • Follow and provide consistent clinical care throughout the full patient enrollment in the program, from intake through discharge.
  • Maintain thorough, timely clinical documentation across all phases of care — this role involves a significant documentation load.

Qualifications

Required

  • Active, unrestricted clinical license — LPC, LCSW, or LMFT strongly preferred (or applicable state equivalent). Associate/Intern-level, pre-licensed credentials accepted for Professional Counseling, Social Work, and Marriage & Family Therapy tracks.
  • Licensure in the state of California required at time of hire.
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, marriage & family therapy, or a related human services field.

Strongly Preferred

  • Active clinical licensure in 3 or more states.
  • Willingness to obtain licensure in additional states as business needs arise.
  • 2+ years of clinical experience serving SUD and/or MH populations.

Preferred

  • Direct experience at an IOP level of care.
  • Experience with Kipu EMR systems.
  • Experience carrying a full caseload virtually.

Competencies

  • Working knowledge of clinical standards of care for patients with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse patient populations.
  • Sound clinical judgment and crisis intervention skills, including risk assessment and de-escalation.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills, with high attention to regulatory and confidentiality standards.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting while staying closely connected to a collaborative care team.
