Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is recruiting a Pediatric Pulmonology Physician Scientist to join our growing team. We are looking for candidates with a track record of clinical excellence and academic contributions as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience.

This position is full or part-time, 50%-100%

This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, Visiting Associate Professor, or Visiting Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

Key Job Responsibilities

Engage in clinical teaching of fellows, residents, and medical students, and support the teaching and clinical research missions of the division and department.

  • Provide clinical service to pediatric pulmonology patients at UW Health Kids locations.
  • Carry out independent research/scholarly activity in an area of interest.

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is a vibrant academic department comprising more than 240 faculty members in 16 subspecialty divisions.

The department promotes and enhances the health of children through outstanding clinical care, exemplary education of pediatric trainees, performance of cutting-edge research, and vigorous advocacy.

Our faculty enjoy a robust infrastructure of services as well as the opportunity to contribute to our world-class research portfolio: since 2015, the Department of Pediatrics has ranked among the Top 20 pediatrics departments receiving NIH funding, according to Blue Ridge Institutes for Medical Research.

The Division of Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine is focused on improving the health of children with lung diseases and breathing and sleep disorders.

Its doctors are specialists who diagnose and treat patients with a wide range of respiratory conditions, from chronic cough to lifelong disorders including cystic fibrosis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and pulmonary hypertension.

Division members provide family-centered, community-based, culturally competent, coordinated, and interdisciplinary care. The multidisciplinary clinical team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, social workers, dietitians, and respiratory therapists.

The division has a robust outpatient pediatric sleep program and a sleep laboratory in which to perform polysomnography and treat children with a variety of sleep-related problems.

The division also has active clinical and research programs in cystic fibrosis, neuromuscular respiratory disease, aero digestive issues, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary hypertension.

The division staffs one of the top cystic fibrosis centers in the nation and is part of the Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutic Development Network.

Negotiable, 12 month

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will have academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the Tenure Track rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.

Board certification or board eligibility in Pediatric Pulmonology from the American Board of Pediatrics is required by the appointment start date.

Completion of an accredited fellowship program in Pediatric Pulmonology is required by the appointment start date.

  • Completion of an ACGME-approved pediatric residency program is required by the start date of the position.
  • WI Medical license by start date of position.
  • Board-certified or board eligible in Pediatrics by start date of position.

Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges, by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on the Tenure Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the Tenure Track.
