Job Description
University of Minnesota Physicians is seeking a Certified Nurse Practitioner or Certified Physician Assistant to join our growing Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU) practice at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.
The CICU Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team caring for critically ill patients with complex cardiovascular disease. The CICU serves a high-acuity and growing patient population and provides advanced cardiovascular critical care, including management of cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, ECMO, acute coronary syndromes, complex arrhythmias, acute and advanced heart failure, respiratory failure, and other cardiovascular emergencies.
In This Role, You Will
Provide comprehensive inpatient care for critically ill cardiovascular patients in collaboration with the CICU attending physician and multidisciplinary care team.
Perform initial and ongoing assessment, formulate differential diagnoses, develop treatment plans, and manage complex acute and critical cardiovascular conditions.
- Evaluate and manage new CICU admissions, transfers, and patients experiencing acute clinical deterioration.
- Initiate and participate in the stabilization and resuscitation of critically ill patients.
- Manage vasoactive and inotropic therapies, invasive and noninvasive hemodynamic data, mechanical ventilation, ECMO, and other advanced critical-care therapies within scope and privileges.
- Opportunity to perform bedside procedures including central venous catheter and arterial catheter placement.
Coordinate care across cardiology, critical care, cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure, interventional cardiology, and other consulting services.
Collaborate closely with physicians, fellows, residents, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Facilitate transitions of care and communication with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team.
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, quality-improvement initiatives, clinical pathway development, and efforts to advance cardiovascular critical care and resuscitation programs.
Contribute to a collaborative learning environment and support education of APP colleagues, trainees, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
Support the continued growth and development of the CICU as patient volume, acuity, and cardiovascular critical-care services expand.
Schedule: 1.0 FTE
- Mix of 10 and 12 hour inpatient CICU shifts.
- Day, weekend, and holiday coverage as part of the CICU APP rotation.
- Weekend coverage approximately every fourth weekend.
- We’re Looking for a PA or NP Who Is:
- A graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or formal Nurse Practitioner training program.
- Certified or eligible for certification through NCCPA, ANCC, or AANP, as applicable.
- Licensed or eligible to acquire a license and prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Medical Practice (PAs) or MN APRN license or eligible to acquire a license and prescriptive authority through MN Board of Nursing (NP’s).
- Able to meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges.

The full-time salary range is $137,366- $168,454 commensurate with practice experience and may also include incentive compensation or additional specialty-specific compensation components. Salary prorated based on FTE.
